I bought two wooden model kits in Beijing last October. The kids and I finished the Imperial Dragon in late August. Since then, my daughter and I have worked on the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests (祈年殿) which forms part of the 15th century Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing. Now it's completed, and I shudder to think of what we're gonna do with it when we move house.

A box slightly larger than the temple, immobilise at the bottom with pins. This is sufficient if carried carefully. Otherwise fill up the space in the box with wadded-up newspaper or bubble wrap. (Boxes and bubble wrap seem to magically proliferate, at least in my home.)

Thank you. The problem I foresee is to do this in a controlled fashion while moving everything else we own too.

Everything you own goes in the rented U-Haul trailer, my dear, packed carefully with quilts and blankets (at least that's how we always did it). Then, at the last minute, you get in the car that's towing the U-Haul trailer with daughter on Mama's lap and box with temple inside, packed as "kai" states on daughter's lap (Mama buckled in safely, of course) and drive off. Was there another child? Then put Mama + daughter + carefully packed box in the back seat and other child in front seat. Drive carefully!
