New Photo Book on Abandoned Buildings

Now and then I blog about abandoned tree houses. But of course, real large houses are even more fascinating in their extended boundary state between dwelling and archaeological site (as I wrote about in January '06).

I recently read a new book (in Swedish) about abandoned houses: Svenska ödehus, finely written by Sven Olov Karlsson and illustrated with exquisite photographs by Philip Pereira dos Reis. Every abandoned house has its story, and the two have sought them out. Highly recommended! Order it here.

Oh man I love this kind of stuff. Abandoned buildings, ghost towns, forgotten cemeteries, etc. Awesome!

There are many abandoned farmhouses in this area of northern Illinois. I have photographed many of them. It seems this is a worldwide phenomenon because I've received mail from Portugal, Australia and other places where rural homes are decaying under the elements. There is an eerie feeling when personal belongings such as children's toys are found tossed among the ruins. Once I found a child's wheelchair inside an abandoned barn. You have to wonder about the stories behind these places.

När min andra roman Amerikahuset kommer på pocket i maj, vill förlaget skicka recensionsex till väl valda bloggare, som du.

SÃ¥ jag undrar vilken postadress du har.
