Science bloggers storm Toronto!

As I mentioned, last night I took a break and went out for dinner and conversation with a wonderful group of science bloggers. Larry Moran of Sandwalk (not pictured) was good enough to arrange it all, and we met up in his office (home of the Talk.Origins server). Joining us were (left to right) Mona of ScienceNotes; Jonathan Badger of T. Taxus, who works at TIGR the J. Craig Venter Institute; Andrew of Mixotrophy (which, OK, is just a placeholder for now, but he's a reader and commenter on many blogs); fellow University of Iowan John Logsdon, Eva of Eastern Blot (not pictured) and Chris Condayan of ASM's MicrobeWorld (also not pictured, as he was off interviewing Eva).

You can find more photos by clicking the links above (including one at Larry's with Eva and Chris; meanwhile, Larry is pictured in pics over at Mona's and Jonathan's). Finally, Chris interviewed all of us for an upcoming videocast from MicrobeWorld, so I'll let y'all know when that's up*...

*Depending on the results and how totally idiotic I sound, that is...there's a reason why I stick to print media......

More like this

This is a bit OT but is Prof. Smith going to comment on the Gonzalez bruhaha over at Iowa State Un.? I suspect that the ISU situation is perhaps the source of some levity at UI but perhaps Prof. Smith, as an Iowan has some insight into the situation not evident to the rest of us.

I'm sure your interview will be better than mine! I was rambling along and not making much sense, and probably waving my arms around a lot.

I've been keeping in contact with Hector Avalos there, who's a friend, but I don't have anything else to say right now that hssn't been said already, alas. And since I've been out of town for much of the past 2 weeks, I've been a bit reluctant to comment because I haven't been around enough to keep an eye on things should they get heated.

I am chagrined that I missed the chance to meet you and what sounds like it was a lovely dinner. Maybe next year? Or sooner?

Hi Elio!

Sorry I missed you. Sure, definitely next year, if I don't get out to San Diego any sooner.

Hi again,

Feel free to consider posting a "Guest Talmudic Question." I reckon that Talmudists always welcomed guest sages.

Far out! In a scientific world where people are often more focused on competition than the shear enjoyment of learning new things, it is great to see the greatest scientific bloggers interacting with big smiles on their faces. Keep up the good work. The world needs you!
