Profile

afarcomp3.jpg Afarensis is a 3.5-2.8 million year old hominin from the Kada Hadar member of the Hadar formation in the Middle Awash, Ethiopia. He is approximately 41 inches tall, weighs approximately 60 pounds and has a cranial capacity of a whopping 410 cc (approximately). Afarensis is currently considered to be transitional between apes and humans and displays some traits of both. Since he spends a lot of time on the couch watching monster movies, some observers question whether he is an obligate biped (although no one has observed him climbing a tree). He also has a blog called Transitions:The Evolution of Life His previous blog can be found here.

The Shape of Things to Come

    Category: Intelligent Design
Posted on: April 18, 2007 4:14 PM, by afarensis, FCD

Remember all those complaints from the Discovery Institute such as:

Rather than "ludicrously comparing ID proponents to faith healers or even Holocaust-deniers," as one columnist did last week, Chapman and West suggest that critics of intelligent design "engage ID scholars in a serious discussion." They pointedly ask, "what is so frightening about allowing it [the evidence for design] to be heard at SMU?"

Red State Rabble provides us with an answer. He links to a report in the SMU Daily Campus News that gives us a glimpse into the Darwin vs Design conference recently held at SMU. Follow the links - both to Red State Rabble's post and to the report he links to , and in the meantime here are a few snippets to tide you over:

He didn't take too kindly to that, and in two minutes' time, we had two police officers who all of a sudden had a real job to do watching us instead of sleeping the night away in the back. I'm sure if we had been distributing thank-you notes expressing our gratitude for the institute coming to our campus, he would've given us a warmer reception.

    According to Robert Crowther, however:

As Richards explains, Darwinists are actively working to censor scientist and scholars advocating intelligent design, and are trying to curb their right to freely discuss even just scientific criticisms of Darwinian evolution. There is a growing trend of dogmatic Darwinists trying to intimidate people who are in some way associated with researching intelligent design into being quiet, rather than engaging in a civil debate about the scientific merits of their arguments.

Seems like the Discovery Institute is engaging in projection...

The four of us decided to stay behind after receiving a text from our two friends letting us know they were safe. However, that was not the last text we received that night, because after that, my friend Mahmud and I began receiving hate text messages, telling us to "shove your sign up your ass" and to "shut the f*** up." All very Christian indeed.

Because if you do, not only will they call the police on you but they will call you foul names as well...

The night was wrapped up when, somehow, one of our flyers made it to the front of the stage, where the journalist asked the other men on stage about the quote regarding the institute's true purpose (see first quote mentioned above) being that it wants to replace modern science with "a science consonant with Christian and theistic convictions."

To my shock, one of the men on stage said, "Yes that's true, and I don't see anything scandalous about that."

I guess we all need to be Shape Changers then, and keep working to keep Rob Crowther down.

From the original post, when Behe was asked why our mitochondrial ribosomes match those of bacteria:

His answer was that ID theory does not allow for explanations regarding interspecies commonalities such as those implied in the question.

In short, his answer was that he couldn't explain it with ID theory.

So Behe can't explain the "Design" part of ID, and we can't see anything "Intelligent." I think they need to do some rebranding.

Forgive an old man who NEVER text messages anyone. How do you text message someone without their phone number? Does that imply that, in attendance at the "seminar" were a group of ID believer students at SMU? Hard to believe. THAT frightens me more than the Wedge document!
