Profile
Afarensis is a 3.5-2.8 million year old hominin from the Kada Hadar member of the Hadar formation in the Middle Awash, Ethiopia. He is approximately 41 inches tall, weighs approximately 60 pounds and has a cranial capacity of a whopping 410 cc (approximately). Afarensis is currently considered to be transitional between apes and humans and displays some traits of both. Since he spends a lot of time on the couch watching monster movies, some observers question whether he is an obligate biped (although no one has observed him climbing a tree). He also has a blog called Transitions:The Evolution of Life His previous blog can be found here.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into the abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Comedy Central has the best journalism in the country. It's the only thing that gives me hope for the future - if it affects the 18-to-24 year olds, maybe we've got a shot.

If you enjoyed Jon Stewart's bit (of course you did!), then be sure to catch what followed it, the "Colbert report" (don't pronounce those "t's"). Stephen Colbert interviewed New York's new mayor, asking Paterson what the difference is between Obama's Democratic platform of change and McCain's. Paterson's answer, naturally, was that McCain's "change" is only words since we've had 8 years of Republican control of government, we've seen what that does to foreign policy, economics, etc., etc., ad nauseum, so if you want real change you need to change parties. Colbert giggled and said, "Yeah, I don't understand it either, but I'm a Republican and that's our platform so I gotta support it!" Of course, he's a tongue-in-cheek Republican, my favorite kind! It was hilarious. He also asked Paterson how he memorized all his speeches (Paterson is blind), saying that if he had to memorize his, they'd all be, "My fellow Americans, God bless America!" Paterson responded, "That's what 20 Republicans said at the convention." Good thing I wasn't eating peas while watching -- I know better than that -- I'd have become a regular pea-shooting machine gun out my poor nose!
