Profile

afarcomp3.jpg Afarensis is a 3.5-2.8 million year old hominin from the Kada Hadar member of the Hadar formation in the Middle Awash, Ethiopia. He is approximately 41 inches tall, weighs approximately 60 pounds and has a cranial capacity of a whopping 410 cc (approximately). Afarensis is currently considered to be transitional between apes and humans and displays some traits of both. Since he spends a lot of time on the couch watching monster movies, some observers question whether he is an obligate biped (although no one has observed him climbing a tree). He also has a blog called Transitions:The Evolution of Life His previous blog can be found here.

The Difference Between Liberals and Conservatives

    Category: Silliness
Posted on: September 4, 2008 11:51 PM, by afarensis, FCD

A good friend of mine sent me this, so I had to share. It is a wonderful picture that clearly and concisely lays out the difference between fiscal conservatives and tax and spend liberals.

My friends, that is more of the same we can count on...

I realize this is a joke, but I get annoyed at the trimphalism whihc is floating around SB along with assumptions that fiscal conservative=bad and liberal=good.

The repubs are FC in name only, Clinton was far from a liberal (though after dramatically losing the Congress to a bunch of newcomers was the first time his budget started to go balanced)

though after dramatically losing the Congress to a bunch of newcomers was the first time his budget started to go balanced

This is fairly true - because they couldn't agree on what to spend the money on, they simply didn't spend the money.

    Thanks - This is beautiful.

It seems to me that most people don't have a problem with fiscal conservatism, but rather those who claim to be fiscal conservatives yet are eager to increase government spending as long as that spending goes into the pockets of corporate America.

Hey, its not my fault that the last 30 years of fiscal conservative policies can only be described as epic fail!

Posted by: afarensis, FCD | September 5, 2008 11:32 AM

If liberals are "tax and spend", and fiscal conservatives are "don't tax and don't spend", what do we call the present bunch who practice "borrow and spend"? Are they hemiliberals, or pseudoconservatives, or what?

The repubs are FC in name only

    No True Scotsman Fail.

Anyone see the McCain ad calling Obama a "tax and spend liberal"? It had all these Democratic Senators pictures and said that he would raise your taxes and cause huge deficits. How can anyone believe this crap?

This is so funny, I'm going to pass this along to some people I know. . . .

Oh, that "tax & spend" biz is so old & stale it's downright rank, honey! I heard that back when I was only knee-high to a duck. But I learned at my daddy's knee you gotta have an income if wanna have an outgo. Apparently the Repubs skipped that lesson. They want to cut taxes (cut income), up spending -- at least on the military -- and declare a balance budget in there somewhere. Hm! In my experience (& I have a lot at this age) that just doesn't work. You dig yourself into a big hole. What's that you say? We DID?! Why, yes, I believe you're right. Now, who could've predicted that? Daddy -- 50 years ago.

The sad thing is, those are annual averages. If you look at the actual debt, it's far worse:

Carter and prior administrations: $900 billion
    Clinton: $900 billion
    Reagan + Bush x2: $8.8 TRILLION

I also love the, "Republicans aren't truly fiscal conservatives" meme. If that is the case, then why do people who constantly call for fiscal conservatism continue to vote for them? What we've seen over the last decade is that those who claim to be libertarians (and fiscal conservatives) are generally Republicans who got fed up (IE rats jumping ship) or closet Republicans who admit their actual affiliation later (a 'la Dennis Miller). Look at the "Libertarian" candidate for the presidency. The guy was a registered Republican for over 35 years. Served in Congress for nearly a decade, served as a Republican appointee in our legal system, advocated for and did fund raising for Republicans, but now? Now he's a "Libertarian."

The fact is that rethugs don't want to admit that the "Grand Old Party" of theirs is the bloated carcass of corruption, ineptitude, violation of civil rights, violation of civil liberties, racism, bigotry, and arrogance. Whenever they aren't in power, Republicans harp about the incompetence of government. Whenever they are in power, they firmly prove their earlier argument.

Oh, dogmeatib, your last 2 sentences were real gems! I believe I shall make a poster! I'd put it on a bumper sticker, but here in Texas, driving a little Hyundai, I'd be run over by all the pickups, Lincoln Continentals, Mercedes, Buicks, Cadillacs...Well, need I say more? Maybe a T-shirt...

    isn't it the truth

I would love to have a link to this cartoon.
The picture is worth...a million words!
People need to be reminded of the facts.
And too many people are being 'fooled'.
