Any money I would have gotten from writing this blog is donated to the National Capital Poison Control Center. They rely on grants, save lives, and decrease health care costs. So read this blog every day!

Good Morning, Science Blogs!

Category:
Posted on: July 18, 2007 7:14 AM, by angrytoxicologist

I am a Ph.D. scientist in the public health sector with a good amount of toxicology and regulatory knowledge. I'm not going to be dishing about projects I am privy to, but I am much freer to make my opinions known anonymously, than I could do in a completely public forum.
Although other topics will probably be brought up from time to time (friday is no day for science), this blog will be focused on public health and the science behind it and will be written for the non-scientist without dumbing anything down.

I've added some of my previous posts onto this site for you to browse through. If you'd like to see more, the rest will still be up at angrytoxicologist.com. The post I brought over are among my favorites (Natural does not equal safe: green tea edition), my reader's favorites (Workers obliterate their lungs), and the controversial (Vaccines and Autism). I also post quite a bit on food, China, and bills in Congress that relate to food and drug safety.

If there's anything you'd like to see e-mail me at tox@angrytoxicologist.com. Happy Reading!

Hello!! Your blog is fascinating and I've been perusing all of the good information you have posted! I have a question for you..... There is a company out there called Enzacta at www.enzacta.com and they make some weird supplement (I don't know what it does). I'm not a supplement user, but was wondering if you could tell me more about it. A personal friend of mine is "working" for this company and the things he says sound like such a hoax. They promote it as some sort of cure-all pill and it's driving me nuts listening to this guy while I have nothing good to challenge him. Any help? Thanks!

Welcome to Scienceblogs! Fix your charset encoding!

Seriously, the stuff from your archive is UTF-8 and scienceblogs is sending iso-8859-1. If that's the only problem you have moving house with your blog, consider yourself lucky.

Just came over from PZ's to say hello, and good morning to you, too (except that it's 1:40pm where I am). Anyway, your posts look interesting, so I'll surely be back to read some more.

Very nice. Looks like I have a new blog to read. I really like the fact that I feel like I can get fair and deeply well-informed coverage here. Maybe a bit too lenient on the autism/vaccine link likelihood (I felt some of the 'cons' seemed like strawmen), but all in all I am thoroughly impressed.

Greetings!

I have a question from an earlier thread of yours. Regarding green tea, you said, Don't put down your cup of tea just yet, but if you're near a GNC please run, don't walk, the other way (good advice anytime).

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a GNC? (Granola Nut Case? Just guessing.)

I look forward to your posts.

Great to have you. With post on topics such as the dumping on the native reservation, you fill an empty niche.

AT: Welcome to ScienceBlogs. In my professional life I'm an environmental epidemiologist and work on many of the things you write about but I blog mainly about infectious disease. I read you before you moved here and posted on you and remember you linked to us once. So welcome. Have fun. It's a nice community, even if we fight with each other.

Kristine: GNC is a chain of "health supplement" stores that mostly seem to live in malls. They carry just about any supplement you've ever heard of (and plenty you wish you hadn't).

On the topic of tea, I'd be curious to know what are the substances in green tea (or any tea)? How does the composition change if you re-use a teabag? Do more toxins get released on each re-use?

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and friendly lurking. Clearly you don't know me yet so I'll cherish these warm fuzzys now: Conservatives don't like me be cause I don't like pollution, hazardous products,...etc and crunchy granola types don't like me because I jump on "natural" products...etc. What's left is a smattering of independent critical thinkers from across the spectrum.

I like to call them independent critical thinkers because they like me and therefore must be the best and brightest. ;) Don't prove me wrong, now.

MikeJ, I'm not e-phisticated enough to have any idea how to fix the encoding. :) I gave up moving everything over for similar reasons. I'll look into it, though.

Hmmm. An angry scientist. That's an unusual and gimmicky shtick.

Usually, they're warm and cuddly.
