Mike Dunford was a graduate student in the Department of Zoology at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, where he studied evolution. Life as an army spouse has since moved him on to Pensacola, where he's currently trying to figure out what to do next. While he's doing that, he writes stuff here, although not usually in the third person. He's also a contributer to The Pandas Thumb. As is the case with everyone else here, his opinions are his own, and do not necessarily represent those of any organization he is affiliated with.
Predictably enough, the news that ACORN filed a lawsuit challenging Congress' decision to bar ACORN and it's "affiliates, subsidiaries, or allied organizations" from receiving federal funds has attracted a bit of attention, both in the traditional media and on...
...the ACORN Institute has had contracts revoked without due process because they've been declared to be an associate of a group that Congress decided to punish...
Yesterday the House of Representatives - demonstrating a reckless disregard for the United States Constitution and the very concept of the rule of law - overwhelmingly voted to ban the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now from receiving...
If you're holding out any hope that Harry Reid might actually be concealing - deep, deep down - an untapped well of leadership potential, it's probably because you haven't seen this story yet: The Senate Finance Committee will drop...

TPM has a list of stimulus cuts that a group of senators led by Democrat Ben Nelson and Republican Susan Collins have proposed. The cuts are at 77.9 billion and growing, and include a great deal of the science-related spending....
Here are a few numbers from the latest Reuters-Zogby poll. See if you can find the one that's not like the others: Rated President Bush's performance as excellent or good: 25% Rated Congress' performance as excellent or good: 11%...
These kids don't have pencils and paper. If that doesn't make you mad, I don't know what would. Pencils and bloody paper. What the hell are we doing as a nation when we've got public school teachers who have to rely on the generosity of strangers to get pencils and paper for their students. What does that say about us. The White House has an annual budget of $300 million. The legislative branch spends $3,700 million of our dollars on itself every year. But teachers have to write proposals and hope that individual Americans will be generous enough to help them make sure that their students have pencils and paper???
Gotta love it. The Senate today took a break from being paralyzed by Republican "No Up-Or-Down-Vote For You" obstructionists. They had to. You see, it's important for people to understand that the Senate isn't going to stand still when...
