For those of you frustrated with the "Top 100" book meme in my previous post, here's a post summarizing six alternate "Top 100" lists. You may find one you're happier with! Or at least, one lacking The Da Vinci Code. Hallelujah!
Profile
bioephemera is art + biology - anything and everything from representations of science in art and literature to the neuroscience of aesthetics. Along with lots of other stuff that's just plain interesting.
Jessica Palmer is a biologist & artist currently based in Washington, DC. She spent the last few years teaching at a small state college out West, and now plays with science policy. Her homepage includes the bioephemera archives & a gallery of her work.
Note: the contents of this blog are the personal opinions of the author, completely independent of any organizations with which she is affiliated.

All these lists are terribly biased towards American and British authors (plus a few Russian and French authors in translation). They have actually written books -- great books -- in other parts of the world too.

Thomas - that is a really good point. I was looking for authors representing post-colonial fiction, like Anita Desai. I think they just may not have a large enough readership in English-speaking countries - yet. At least Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Salman Rushdie are consistently represented.
