Dr. Joan Bushwell's Chimpanzee Refuge

HR 810. The president’s only veto after six years in office. The failure of the House to override the veto with a 2/3rds majority due primarily to the muddy-headed thinking and religious dogma-addled brains of conservative Republican lap-dogs. One can only hope that rational people will remember this come November and vote accordingly. How anyone can place the importance of a blastocyst, a hollow ball of perhaps several dozen cells about 1/200th of an inch across, above the needs of millions of suffering humans, particularly when said blastocyst will most likely be discarded as medical waste, is beyond my understanding.

For a truly repellent explanation of the president’s stand, go right to the source.

Geez, it almost made forget about the war, the deficit, the over 8 trillion dollar national debt, and the myriad other wonderful things that have been made possible by “compassionate conservatism”. It makes me want to puke.

Bu-Rove-sh is actually counting on their irrational supporters remembering this — going to the polls. I figure they saw the issue as a no-lose opportunity. Bush used his veto. He showed ‘em. Even if there were enough votes to override him, he’d get his base riled up. Now, with all the stories about dems and moderates winning enough seats to get the necessary votes, the so-called pro-life fanatics will be sure to participate in the mid-term elections.

It’s not about governing with these folks; it’s all about politics.

I agree with you Gerry, however, the key term is “rational people”. I do not consider these fanatics rational. The qeustion is whether or not enough people will sit up, look around, and say “WTF happened to our country?” I fear, though, that too many people are either too busy trying to make ends meet or are engaged in diversions to notice.

When dealing with folks who figure blastocyst==human, I fall back on that recently circulating meme:

If you were caught in a burning building and had the choice of saving a 2-year old child or a petri dish of 5 fertilized eggs that could be implanted in a womb, who would you choose?

By the “ethics” expressed here, you grab the petri dish, say “sorry kid” and leave him to burn to death.
