This is a simple test...

...of how much time you spend checking out fringe political blogs and those who blog about them.

Visit this site and report below whether your first clear reaction was anger or amusement. And don't let the category I slapped on this baby influence your answer.

Confusion, followed shortly by disgust.

My first reaction was, "is this guy for real? Or is he trying to be Jonathan Swift?"

I hope he's not for real. Then again, I suppose there are a lot of poeple who think like that. It's just sad that there are people who know how to use computers and as such presumably have some exposure to the world at large, and still think like that.

Amusement, followed rather shortly by boredom. I think I've read too many of those.

Sick.
Really fucking sick.

Considering that no all terrorists are true Arabs the guy is seriously off his rocker.

Anyhow to 'kill' the middle east in general, lets have energy independence. Starve countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc. of oil revenue and in the case of Iran, see where their nuclear program goes, or how fast Mahmoud Ahmadinejad changes his tune.

It's sick, racist, and pisses me off. Honestly, why did you link to that? It's like pointing to road kill for god's sake. I know it's 'Hootworthy', but I really don't think we should encourage them by bumping up their hit count. I tried to leave a comment but never made it pass the trolls. In the future, do your readers a favor and just give us a toned down summary.

Amusement.

The way I see it, there are two possibilities with posts like this. 1) It's just someone's weird juxtaposition, kind of like those old "Nuke the Whales" T-shirts. Take a weird idea and make it more weird (this case). 2) The person is serious, in which case they are seriously demented. Fortunately, they are usually not in control of anything important, and thus, of no serious consequence as any sane person reading the blog will come to the same conclusions I have.

Disgust.

Horrid moral logic which flies in the face of the right wing idea that morality comes from religion only. If "killing" a zygote in deep freeze, an act the author considers immoral, is acceptable then genocide to protect other zygotes is acceptable.

Any tolerable immoral act justifies all immorality no matter how aberrant.

I'm suspecting a "Modest Solution" angle in this - Scientifical (sic) studies?

Internet socialization is quite revealing, isn't it?
People blog, make websites, and comment as if they were among like-minded friends. They routinely say things online they'd never say in mixed company in real life.
Thousands - if not millions - of sick and warped delusions which were once kept closeted in relatively private communities of like-minded folk, are now on public display for everyone to gawk at.
The internet confers the illusion of privacy, and in so doing reveals that the ugly side of humanity is far more common than many formerly suspected.

It's clearly an attempt at an "A Modest Proposal" type screed, but in the classic style of right wing humour it is both morally hideous and misses the point of satire. As Amanda at Pandagon and many others have pointed out and as is blindingly obvious to anyone with any reading comprehension skills, the satire of A Modest Proposal wasn't aimed at the Irish but rather at the moral degeneracy of those advocating "tough love" solutions. As usual, the wingnuts get it completely backwards and think that the eliminationist, bloodthirsty rhetoric is the point.

If any of those wingnuts are reading, here's a cut-out-and-keep guide: it's not satire if your actual viewpoint is simply a milder version of the one you profess to hold.

Right wing?

I thought it was a left-wing parody of right-wing blogs.

Dang! You people are stupid.

Fuck, folks, it's an obvious parody. Just look at the "About" page.

You'd think the way over the top, and beyond the pale title would be a dead giveaway.

How can you tell it's parody? It looks like a very unsubtle demonstration of redneck pride -- reminds me of Dubyas "Bring it on" ignorant bravado. The Chuck Rangel/draft article doesn't seem too subtle as parody or satire.

The blogroll is almost exclusively rightwing, the adverts are rightwing, and the Weblog Finalist category are in the category of lunatic ravings of Pamela wannabees.

This guy FIAR is a loon!!! I mean take this for example:

http://radioactiveliberty.com/?p=366

Where he says "I'm an atheist"

Then in another post, he's bashing the gays:

http://radioactiveliberty.com/?p=627

I mean, how could an atheist who hates the baby jesus be a gay basher at the same time? It just doesn't make sense...

What's wrong with Redneck pride? It's better than having no pride at all. At least with Redneck pride, we're still proud to be American, proud that Bush is our President, and proud that the military is doing their job. What do you have?

I can tell it's parody. Most people that visit that site can tell it's parody (with Caustic Sarcasm being a category, for cripe's sake).

Only the left side has a hard time reading right-side parody because you dingbats honestly believe that's what we really think.

I guess you mean that there's a hard choice between Redneck pride or no pride at all, excluding all else? So your question would be: Would you rather have a) Redneck pride or b) no pride at all?

And my answer is: Considering that Redneck pride is misguided pride in demonstrated ignorance, I'd choose no pride if that's the alternative. I may well be stupid, but to be publicly prideful of ignorance is just too much.

At least with Redneck pride, we're still proud to be American, proud that Bush is our President, and proud that the military is doing their job. What do you have?

I have rigger wings. Certainly not as cool as being the Col's driver or the smajes gofer, but we all play the hand we're dealt.

I'm with Ginger Yellow and still think that Beck's wrong about this being an obvious parody.

Just because you drunkenly grab the frobulator and wrench it to the right until it breaks off in your hand doesn't make it parody or satire. It just makes it over-the-top rightwing shit. Satire and parody usually involves some form of irony; if it doesn't, it's generally performance art or deranged ravings confusing itself. The first time I visited, Jesus' General I knew it was satire and parody. The first time I visited Stormfront I knew it wasn't, but now you've got me thinking that maybe under your definition those Chick tracts are parody too...

Oh, you boys and gals of the munger horde are some cards alright; I haven't seen so much bullshit since BV and Cao.

Thank God for Teh Internets and proud rednecks.

Wow, JKB, what an ignorant bigot you are. You think "Rednecks" are all ignorant. Just because someone identifies themselves as a "Redneck" doesn't mean that they are uneducated, racist, or inbred anymore than someone calling themselves a "liberal" means they are a terrorist appeasing, communist, asshat.

You're so caught up in your own self-importance and arrogance, like most of the people that have commented here, that you can't possibly accept anything you don't agree with as worthwhile.

JKB, Funny you should mention Jesus' General. Also funny you should mention the draft post. You do realize, of course that post was a copy and paste from Operation Yellow Elephant where I merely changed "Republican" to "Democrat" and changed "War" to "Draft."

So why is it that with mine it "doesn't seem too subtle as parody or satire." and with Jesus' General you "knew it was satire and parody?"

Could it be because you're an idiot?

Posted by: FIAR | December 21, 2006 7:45 PM

Although I can't speak for what Jesus' General's motives are, it is clear that the followers of OYE believe in what is posted there, not based on their comments at OYE, but based on the argument we had with their commenters.

Well, of course Rednecks are ignorant. They believe in God, country, and all the other stuff that made this country what it is.

Only ignorant minds think that the US is a great country to be in. Truly enlightened minds would realize that the US is a crappy country with crappy leaders and deserve to be mocked, ridiculed, and lose any and all wars/battles they are currently in.

Only ignorant minds would be proud to have been in the military, even if "all he did" was drive the Colonel, answer questions about my pay at S-4, or want to be a JAG officer. Enlightened minds would see that there are levels of respect earned in the military and 'chute packers are so much more deserving of such respect.

Thank God I'm ignorant. Enlightenment looks to be a little too much for my simple life.

Munger horde. Heh, that's clever.

Oh, so you're fellas are right wing satirists? Shoot, now I get it, but you gotta give me -- it's hard to read emotion in these posts.

Boy is my face red -- now that I reread the article and see that you changed Republicans to Democrats I get the irony element. It fits. That's how them boys at The Onion do it too. Damn I feel like some idiot one-upped by Gomer Pyle.

See, that's what I get for not following the certified genius up above that had you boys pegged rightly in the first place. I'm gonna need to put the horde on my daily reading list. I needs the yuks. :-)

I might have swallowed the bait if it hadn't been through all of the strikethrough text on the About page. The real fringe blogs have all sorts of creative ways of using English but that touch was about as subtle as a Claymore.
