Astrology is crap
You can not buy a star name
Yes, there really was a Big Bang
Now on ScienceBlogs: Let the War on Christmas Begin. Atheist style.
Speculations on astronomy, astrophysics, news I find interesting, theoretical issues, science and science policy. I will digress into computational physics, science fiction and general issues and basically whatever I feel like whenever. And, of course, cats.
Still working on an analytic exact approximate solution to the herding problem.
So you want to be an astrophysicist?
Random info.

Huh.
Having a tough day? Or do you make a point out of going after
the low-hanging fruit at least once a year?
Someone has to do it, I suppose.

Nah, just wanted to get it into the open
Sort of like first week of Astro 1, let the punters know where you're coming from

A few years ago, one of my astro lab students asked me to help her find a star she had 'purchased' for a friend of hers. She was very disapointed to hear that not only was 'her' star 28th magnitude (and thus out of range for our 16 inch) but also wasn't there, according to Simbad. If they're going to sell stars, can't they at least sell actual stars?

Hence my question. Most of us start posting stuff like this in early September. The
timing seemed odd.

Ah, I see, I'll probably repeat in September; this was prompted by me slowly importing tags, archives and html blurbs.
Felt a need to provide a short hand intro on my more absolute positions.
I really despise the "star seller" companies, what they do is fraudulent and I have had to tell far to many undergrads that their "nice present" to/from relatives and lovers is a rip off and piece of junk.
Strangely, when I offer the same service in class, no one takes me up on it.
I'll offer them almost any star they want, except for "Bob" of course. That is taken.
