Congratulations Dr Brian May
Hm, I wonder if he will be looking for a postdoc...
Now on ScienceBlogs: "Investigative science journalism" and books I like to read [All of My Faults Are Stress Related]
Speculations on astronomy, astrophysics, news I find interesting, theoretical issues, science and science policy. I will digress into computational physics, science fiction and general issues and basically whatever I feel like whenever. And, of course, cats.
Still working on an analytic exact approximate solution to the herding problem.
So you want to be an astrophysicist?
Random info.

If I went back to continue my MSc thesis in solid state physics, I'd have to start again almost from the beginning. I remember next to nothing about the field (how do you do a Fermi surface average again?). And that despite the fact that I merely switched fields, and did not leave science completely for 35 years.
In other words, I'm impressed.
