Political Party Favors and Fun

Category: Riding the Waves
Posted on: September 28, 2008 2:06 PM, by Karmen

matchomatic.jpgmmresults.jpgIt’s probably very common right now... you go to a cocktail party during the election season, and you end up discussing politics. Who said what? Who agrees with who? Hopefully, after comparing responses at the Science Debate 2008, you should have a good idea of where our candidates stand, and would be prepared for any spontaneous party discussions.

So, since you’re so prepared, here’s a way to do the fun political comparisons without actually attending a party. Try the Match-O-Matic, created by ABC News and USA today. It throws you a variety of quotes from the candidates on hot-button issues, and asks you to choose the one you most agree with. Here’s the catch... it won’t tell you who says what, until the end. So, rather than just picking your favorite candidate, you’ll actually have to consider the issues!

My results are shown on the right... I wasn’t really surprised by my results, but at the same time, I felt sort of validated... I know why I support Barak Obama.

Even if you think you know what you think, give it a try! Feel free to share your results here in the comments, especially if you are looking for that cocktail-party-chatting feel.

When I did it, I got Obama on the two immigration questions, and McCain on the rest, which about fits with what I expected.

Not that it matters, as I am not an american, but I got Obama all the way, except for immigration, and those questions where both of them say the same thing (eg: cutting taxes. Dumb idea.)

I think I must have cheated somehow, as I got all but one answer for Obama, and that one was the Gay Marriage one, in which I disliked both answers. Immigration was another, so I just got lucky there.

It definitely shows how both candidates have to tiptoe around minefields every time they speak.

I found that confusing, since McCain holds at least two positions on over half of those issues and will say just about anything to get elected.
