My scientific specialty is chronobiology (circadian rhythms and photoperiodism), with additional interests in comparative physiology, animal behavior and evolution. Yeah, I wouldn't have given it a second thought--that critter would've been in my house on my carpet in SECONDS.

It was happily munching earthworms, but by the time I grabbed my camera, my dog scared it back into its shell.

Seriously? Eye color is dimorphic in turtles? That's...both awesome and really boring! :-D
