Less than a week after biofuels were touted as part of the solution to global warming in the third of three highly anticipated UN-sponsored reports on climate change , another UN report has raised alarms about their viability. Among those downsides: Large tracts of fuel crops could take land away from food production and raise food prices. ( CS Monitor)

I take the heretical veiw that dealing with climate change should _not_ be our highest priority for the environment; but that reversing the 10,000 year conversion of forest and savanah to farmland is where we need to focus our energies. So until we figure out how to minimize our agricultural footprint (I'd suggest vertical farming...), this rush to biofuels is bad, bad news for the natural environment.
