The blue agave plant has a rich cultural history among Mexicans as the source of tequila. Now the once lucrative crop is being burned to make way for another form of high-grade hootch ethanol. ( Reuters)

Granted, an answer to oil must be found however, ethanol (corn) is not cost effective to produce in the long run and will do nothing to lower fuel costs.
I worked for the Dept. of Transportation in South Dakota one summer several years ago and while talking to other veteran DOT employees there was one older gentleman that said, "ethanol gunks up the engines, they don't run as well".
I've never forgotten his comment and since then haven't been able to warm-up to the idea of ethanol.
