Kip Thorne is a superstar physicist and darling of the science fiction crowd. Now the theoretician who introduced the world to wormholes, time travel and warped space has himself entered a new dimension: Hollywood. ( The Australian)

Probably Kip Thorne shouldn't play Kip Thorne.... He's an interesting lecturer, but I"m not sure he'd be great as an actor on screen. Hard to say.

I interacted with him a bit when I was in grad school. He co-taught a year-long I took class entitled Applications of Classical Physics with Roger Blandford. This was the class where we did elasticity, fluid dynamics, statistical mechanics, optics, plasma physics, and general relativity all in one year. Yipers.

The actor who immediately comes to my mind as being best suited for the role is Morgan Freeman. The skin color isn't the same, of course, but no actor is going to look exactly like Kip Thorne. However, I can really see Freeman capturing Thorne. And, hell, if Orson Welles can play Othello, Morgan Freeman can play Kip Thorne!
