Better Fed Cows Could Cool the Planet

Odorless, colorless methane - the primary of natural gas - is a powerful greenhouse agent. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, pound for pound methane is about 21 times more effective at warming Earth's atmosphere than carbon dioxide is. Globally, ruminant livestock - including cattle, goats, and buffaloes - produce about 80 million metric tons of methane a year, accounting for about 28 percent of man-made methane emissions annually. As the demand for meat steadily rises globally, the question is how can we keep cows from burping. ( CS Monitor)

its easier to stop eating meat, which accounts from more greenhouse gasses than vehicle emissions.

Alternatively, we could stop eating cows. Oh, but that would require changing our behavior. Obviously we couldn't possibly do that, since we're all mindless slaves to our immediate hungers.

Maybe we should slowly reduce our consumption of beef. Stopping all at once would intruduce the problem of what to do with tens of millions of dead cows in the United States alone, since I doubt many cattle raising operations would keep them alive if there were no market.
