Will People Really Vote Based On the Economy?

In this video, Hannity href="http://www.newshounds.us/2008/09/11/hannity_has_a_bullyboy_meltdown_at_suggestion_economy_is_in_trouble.php">tells
us the economy is in fine shape, wonders if it is reasonable
to think that people would really vote against the Republicans due to
the economy.

Granted, it was a month ago, at which time the market was only down by
20%.  But he seriously believed that the
economy was in great shape.

I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it.  It's even
funnier now.  His guest, href="http://www.squanderingofamerica.com/squandering.cfm">Robert
Kuttner, calls him a fool.

I'm not even going to listen to the clip to say yes, voters will. It's hardly surprising, really, as there's been (certainly since WWII) a strong trend for voters to vote against the party in power during bad economic times. It's not always the only thing people think about, but the effect is clearly strong enough to turn elections, which is why the GOP is worried about it and tried to delay the collapse until after the election. Though, in reality, this crisis has wide-spread bipartisan roots going back through every administration back to Reagan at least.

I have to agree with Moopheus. The last time I looked, virtually all reliable polls have Obama/Biden ahead of McCain and, in some cases, pulling away significantly. I'm no prophet but it looks to me as though we might be in for a Democratic landslide!

I think its a mistake to think SH believes what he says. He would indeed be a fool.
More likely is that, as a murdoch bitch, he will tow the party line right up until he gets told his job no longer exists.
He will then emerge blinking into the light, whining about 'loyalty' that never existed.

Think of it as the reverse pascal's wager.

If he keeps on spouting bs and obama wins, those wussy, pink liberals aren't likely to spread his skin on the stony ground to dry.
but
If he stops to even listen to himself for a minute and the thugs go on to win, he risks losing face and his position.

I think its time now to get that stony ground a'drying.
