ScienceBlogs Book Club: Inside the Outbreaks

The Corpus Callosum

The Corpus Callosum is an occasional journal of armchair musings, by a suburban, reality-based, slightly-left-of-center guy, who reserves the right to be highly irregular at times. Topics: social commentary, neuroscience, politics, science news. Mission: to develop connections between hard science and social science, using linear thinking and intuition; and to explore the relative merits of spontaneity vs. strategy.

White Coat Hypotension

Category: Chatter
Posted on: December 12, 2008 9:05 AM, by Joseph j7uy5

Land's End sells white coats.  The kind that doctors wear.

I got an email hawking Land's End stuff.  Promising big savings.  So I notice this:

Anyway, I looked at the image of the coat.  I imagined myself putting it on.  Got chills.  Yuck.

I'm glad I went to medical school.  There was more good than bad.  But yuck.

The lab coat in the picture is the short version, which I associate with being a med student. It's the emasculated, "doctor-in-training", version of the real thing. I'd rather dress up in a hard hat and bunny slippers.

What's on the next page - an orange short-sleeved jumpsuit?

Hey now, it's only $8. That's the sort of price actual med students could afford.

The real question is: Is the material any good? Is it thick? A good blend that will doesn't wrinkle too much, sheds blood stains easily, and doesn't pill?
