If you're into art, science and the brain, or enjoyed the recent MoMA show on design, then be sure to check out this Seed/MoMA/Parsons event on April 4th. The guest list is pretty fantastic, and includes everyone from Benoit Mandelbrot to Henry Markram to Chandler Burr to Erik Demaine to Greg Lynn. The timing of the presentations is almost comically dense - by my calculations, the "What is Reality?" talk will get about 15 minutes - but that's how I prefer my academic talks: lofty and short.

Also of interst in NYC is the ongoing Brainwave cultural festival which demonsrates how art, music, and meditation affect the brain. Go to www.brainwavenyc.org for coming events. I went to the Neuroscience of the Groove concert-talk-demo last night and was enthralled to watch onscreen the brainwaves of three percussionists including worldclass Valerie Dee Naranjo as they played or went through the motions of playing without hitting the instruments or thought about playing. It was a little hard to decipher exactly the connection between neurons firing in unison and what was appearing as brainwaves on the screen. More work needed in the dialogue department.
