Presumably if you are reading this you enjoy my ramblings about the deep sea. What if you could get more of me? What if I was on your TV? Wouldn't that be great! Recently, I found out about an opportunity with a production company that is developing a show on the deep sea for a major cable channel. Sorry I can't be more specific. They are looking for hosts and there is a little talk about yours truly potentially filling the spot. At this point they have my tape and I am in the running with a bunch of others that frankly might be better looking than me. That is why I need your help...I am taking it to the streets, grassroots style. Post in the comments if you want to see my face on a "major cable channel". Only comment if you truly think I am qualified, engaging, or passionate enough about the deep ocean. If I get enough comments here then I will pass the web address to the producers. Thanks! P.S. Craig is temporarily a post-doctoral fellow at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute who is looking for a permanent position. He spends most of his time balancing his overwhelming geekdom with normalcy so he can function in the real world. Luckily his wife likes his geekiness.
Peter Etnoyer is a Graduate Research Associate at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He studies deep corals and ocean fronts, and he loves to be on the water.
Kevin Zelnio is a Graduate Student Researcher at Penn State studying the ecology of hydrothermal vent and methane seep communities. He raises awareness of the plight of the spineless through folk music.

I stopped watching TV due to the crap that is on it years ago, Craig. Yet, if you can reel this in, I'd be pleased to watch your show. Heck, I'll even buy a TV.

Well, if you're not pretty then people know you must have some other talent that got you hired. Maybe something like knowledge, or passion for the topic, etc. Those seem more valuable to me.

I certainly think that you are "qualified, engaging, or passionate enough about the deep ocean." As for looks, they would likely team you up with a bikin-clad co-star, with whom you would have to spend a great deal of time during filming and production.

p.s. Tegumai, do we really need the fantasizing about eye candy? why not hope instead for a really smart co-hostess who is just as passionate and knowledgeable about the topic as Craig, someone he could really work with?

I know that you would put in 110%, as you always do. This is a passion, not necessarily a career, that has motivated, encouraged, and intrigued you for several years now. You bring this to this site and in everything you do. Why not take it to a cable network. No matter what show or what channel, you would have people, non-science as well, watching and learning. Isn't that what is important. I would also vote for Peter as your co-host. Good luck!

I think you would make a great host. You definitely know your stuff! We could have our students watch you to find out more than what we have in our textbooks. Would you shoot on location? What an awesome opportunity.

Question: 1)Is there a reason that a woman would be a "sidekick" instead of a co-star? and 2)Why is there an assumption that "eye-candy" and "smart and passionate & knowledgable about the subject" are mutually exclusive concepts?
