Thanks to Walter Olson

Thanks to Walter Olson of the great weblog Overlawyered for his mention of my blog yesterday. I cringe a bit when I see myself listed as a "legal analyst", since I don't have a law degree; at minimum, the word "amateur" should be attached to it. But I appreciate the recognition from someone who really is a legal analyst, and a very good one.

I noticed that the other blogger mentioned, Gabe "Unlearned Hand", also does not have a law degree (he's completed year 2 of his degree at U. of Virginia according to his bio).

Interesting that decent legal stuff can also come from the amateur, but we already knew that.

Interesting. I don't think of you as a legal analyst, but as a scientist who is very capable in the law and logic of his fields of interest.

That, and being highly skilled at debate, make it seem that you have a law degree.

I find your legal analysis unexceptional, but your breadth of knowledge in your fields of interest quite exceptional, as are the manner and volume of your explication of them.

Regardless of the handle, please keep up the great work.

LOL. I'm not a scientist either. I'm an amateur in both areas.

I'm sure my legal analysis isn't likely to win any awards. Science and the law are avocations for me. I'm glad that I know enough that I can sometimes be confused for either a scientist or a lawyer, and I'm sure I know much more about either than the vast majority of people who aren't in those fields, but I don't pretend to know more than a fraction of what the real pros do. I'm fortunate to have friends in both fields who can help me supplement my understanding where it lacks, for which I am very grateful.

Well I'll be damned. (A dead certainty if the Pat Robertsons turn out to be right.) I always assumed you are an educator with a "soft science" background.

I just watched To Catch a Thief on HBO. You could be that guy - fool everyone.

Keep up the good work, Mr. Smart Dilettant.

Nope. My vocation is that I own a small mortgage company. Everything else is avocation.
