Raj left this as a comment and I thought I'd move it up here. Charles Socarides, a psychiatrist and anti-gay crusader who helped found the "ex-gay" movement, has died at age 83. The NY Times obit is here. As seems staggeringly common among the harshest anti-gay activists - Randall Terry, Anita Bryant, Alan Keyes and many, many more - Socarides' own son was gay. Beyond that, I know little about him.

And... he was married 4 times!!!! Three of them ended in divorce. Family values.

Phyllis Schlafly too, I think. Weird.
Yes, Phyllis Schafly, too. Her gay son, who is a lawyer, works for her organization. Strange.
Some background about Socarides can be found on the web page http://www.priory.com/psych/disparat.htm He was also interviewed for the public radio program This American Life "81 Words" which can be accessed via http://207.70.82.73/pages/descriptions/02/204.html
There is still the guy i grew up with, from the 5th grade through high school graduation (and then had to sit on a panel with him a few years ago), Jeffrey Satinover. He is and always has been a "book smart" type of guy, who never seemed to be able to recognize reality off the page. HIs efforts to support the work of his "paper" mentor Socarides, needs to be disavowed at every turn.
Spyder, just to remind you, Satinover was the author of a book on the so-called "bible codes." His claims regarding the "bible codes" have been debunked many times. The "codes" have also been documented in the novel Moby Dick, as well as other places.
At some point this bible stuff gets to be ludicrous.
