STACLU Misses the Joke

Category: Church and State
Posted on: July 5, 2006 10:37 AM, by Ed Brayton

Bartholemew sent the information about what is going on in Indian River Schools in Deleware, where a Jewish family has been so badly harrassed that they had to leave town, to Jesus' General, who naturally ran with it (for those who don't know, Jesus' General is sort of the Stephen Colbert of the blogosphere, but specifically targeting the religious right, which makes for amusing satire). He sent a message to Nedd Kareiva, the STACLU founder, who actually published the address and phone number of the Jewish family in the midst of that harrassment:

Dear Mr. Kareiva,

Please allow me to be the first to thank you and the staff of Stop The ACLU for all you did to make the Indian River Pogrom such a resounding success. It isn't easy to run a Jewish family out of town in these politically correct times. Usually, they just hunker down, hiding behind antiquated interpretations of the Constitution and the good will of those who wrongly believe that non-Christians are entitled to all of the benefits of citizenship.

But this time, the family fled, and I think you deserve partial credit for making that happen. After all, you did publish their name, address, and phone number on your web site (see screen cap below) as part of your "Expose ACLU Plaintiffs" project. It certainly wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that such information gave people the tools they needed to drive the Dobrich family from their home.

Predictably, Kareiva missed the joke completely. He replied:

Pogrom? I'm not sure I want to call it that. That is not an appropriate term, however, I am pleased that we had an effect in this case. We have others we want to put up on the site to shame them but have not gotten around to it. And I'm not so sure I can take credit for it. However, if an ACLU speaker was booed, that's music to my ears.

Not only is he happy to have helped drive a Jewish family from their home under threats of violence, he's got plans to do it to others as well. Praise the Lord, indeed. What would Jesus do?

He's back! And he's very, very hangry!

Jesus II - The resurrection

Bad, mercyless and armed.
Meet the son of God and his 44 "Forgiver" magnum.
No more golden rule for you, boy. Now we play by HIS rule!
You are the sin. And He is the cure!
He came to loves us, and we kick him.
Now He's returned to kick us back.

"God forgive. I don't!"

Jesus II - The resurrection
in the right wing nut's mind near you.

A couple days after you originally posted this story, I somehow found the post on STACLU where they revealed the name and address, and I was utterly disgusted. The entire idea of "exposing" anyone who needs help from the ACLU is sickening, as if it's anyone else's business to call them and harass them at home about a lawsuit they disagree with. If the allegations are true (and I bet they are), I hope this family really nails the school district.

In other words, Kareiva concedes that there is some possibility that he would want to call it a pogrom and take credit for his part in it. What a freak.

If Bartholomew is reading this, I'd like to say many thanks for passing my find of that STACLU "outing" page on to the General. By their deeds shall ye know them.

He's happy he's having an "effect," where that means running one jewish family out of town, while the other, unnamed, family in the suit gets to hunker down and hide for the rest of their lives.

They say children can be cruel (and it's true) but I have never seen children as heartless as this -- and happy to take credit for it!

An interesting look at this case comes from David Niewert's blog, Orcinus, http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/
where he says,

Regarding Ann Coulter's ludicrous book "Slander," I once wrote that "the 'liberal' sins [she] caricatures -- atheism, cosmopolitanism, sexual license, moral relativism, communism, disloyalty and treason -- are basically identical to the crimes of the Jews as Hitler saw them."

I suppose we ought to be thankful that kareiva believes in attacking jews directly.
