Gay Adoptions Stand in Indiana

The Indiana state Supreme Court rejected an appeal of a lower court decision that paves the way for gay adoptions in that state. Bravo.

Another reason to be proud that I'm a Hoosier. Along with .... uhhhh, birthplace of Kurt Vonnegut and .... uhhh, we've got lots of corn.

Reading through the article, I'm dismayed (again) by the complete inability of people to understand the duties of the judicial branch:

The decision also disappointed state Sen. Jeff Drozda, R-Westfield, who is opposed to same-sex adoptions. He said the courts were not representing the views of Hoosiers. He said he will introduce legislation in 2007 to bar same-sex couples from adopting.

"The concern that I have is that the integrity of the judicial and the legislative procedures is in jeopardy because the court has decided to legislate, and I believe that is the role of the General Assembly," Drozda said. "The intent of the court is not the intent of the assembly and not the intent of Hoosiers across the state."

Of course the court isn't representing the views of Hoosiers--it's not supposed to! *devolves into incoherent, angry mutterings*
