Ohio Benefits Suit Thrown Out

Category: Gay Rights
Posted on: November 22, 2006 9:49 AM, by Ed Brayton

A suit in Ohio to use the state's anti-gay marriage amendment to void partnership benefits at a public university in that state has been thrown out of court. The suit was filed by the Alliance Defense Fund. You know, the same group that said recently:

Preying on these and similar fears, advocates of same-sex "marriage" argue that proposed state marriage amendments will undermine the ability of government and even private entities to grant benefits to unmarried people. This false argument is being used to confuse many people...

I wonder if they actually wear a different face in to court than the one they use to lie about the amendments before they're passed?

One would think the ADF would claim the powers of prophecy....

That thier bigotry is seemingly immune to irony is...well...ironic. =P

Cheers.

Oh, if you read their screeds on their blog, they claim that they can oppose these benefits without harming people is because these people can always get benefits separately. No matter that it costs so much more this way and won't be available to some at all - they gloss over that.

The fact is they are professional liars and will say and do anything to advance there extremist hate agenda. Life is a zero-sum game to them.

Their ultimate aim is to criminalize homosexual identity. With all the disenfranchisement that That would entail.

While I applaud the suit being tossed, the grounds are not based on the text of the anti-gay amendment. The Ohio Constitutional Amendment seems pretty clear to me that gay benefits at Universities is one of the things being targeted.

Instead, it was tossed on the grounds of standing. The state Representative (who was one of the sponsors of the amendment and would presumably know its intent as well as anybody) simply did not have standing to pursue the suit. On the other hand, I'm not sure just who would have standing.
