Dispatches from the Creation Wars

Sponsoring Gribbit Live

My buddy Dan emailed me with a link to this post by Gribbit, where he notes that his online radio show is looking for advertisers and sponsors. He suggested that I pass the hat among my readers and we sponsor the show for Dispatches. It does have an appealing irony to it:

“Gribbit Live is sponsored by people who think I’m a blithering idiot, For the antidote to my stupidity, go to Dispatches from the Culture Wars.”

He’s in for $20. Anyone else?

Oh, do on then. I’ll do $50 if you throw in a signed copy of your book.

    Get your PapPal going, ED.

Maybe Gribbet can get a radio contest going to boost ratings and sponsorships? Maybe see how much water he can drink before he has to go? I can so totally see him doing this!

ps: For all you knuckleheads out there, let me nip your protests in the bud… I AM KIDDING! Even Gribbet is not thatr dumb… Right?

No one should ever take any bets on how dumb Gribbit can be.

    Ever.

Ed, post here or email to me details on how you want the money, and I am in for $20 as well.

I’m in if we can weasel in a reference to it being from the ACLU too. Hell, I’ll go 75.

    Now that’s funny.

Ed, Leni’s right. I’ll up my contribution to $50 if our sponsorship includes a line praising the ACLU.

How about we take up a separate collection to pay some savvy eight-year-old to redo Gribbit’s wreck of a site so that it doesn’t lock up every few seconds in both IE and Firefox. Even if there were anything there worth reading, I can’t be bothered to wait 30 seconds for the scroll bar and links to start working.

This kind of problem is pathognomonic of many right-wing blogs, because their owners insist on littering their sidebars and headers with Ray-Ban-wearing bulldogs, musket-brandishing hilljacks, gyrating bible-whapping Elmer Fudd clones, and all manner of other ostantatious and resource-gobbling applets and animations and bullshit — whatever they can they can find that looks like it would intimidate a liberal. It’s almost to the point where, thanks to all the extraneous noise, the posts themselves on these blogs seem to be written by angry, clueless illiterates or something. I’m sure it’s just the shoddy presentation, though.

P.S. What the hell is “Wide Awakes” with an “s”? Is this a pun I’m missing or am I being too generous?

    I like it.

Ed – Put me down for $20, if you can get him to say that!

The Wide Awakes were a (non-violent) political support group that liked to dress up in quasi-military fashion and hold torchlight marches supporting the Lincoln candidacy and other Republicans in 1860. That this has anything to do with a radio program that makes Spongebob Squarepants look like Noam Chomsky I can’t say.

    And don’t actually care.

Yesterday I was going to post to say that ‘Laughing at Benny Hinn’ was the funniest thing you’d ever published.

Well, it’s not any more! This is.

But it’s the comment from Mr Gribbit that really makes it for me.

Just the mental image of Gribbit chasing after Ed trying to shove a penny up his ass…..I can’t take it. Sign me up for $10 (also a poor student).

We don’t really have one. He likely won’t take it anyway. But hey, it’s not like anyone’s going to sponsor his show thinking it’s a good investment. Who are they gonna reach, a handful of ignorant rubes like him?

I’ll sign up for pocket lint and three magic beans. That’s about what Gribbett is worth, andyway.

    I had IM_sexychat with him..

    Me: hola gribbit
    gribbitr2000: hello
Me: just checking out your blog here
Me: “My first question is why that sub is not at the bottom of the Pacific? As soon as that sub surfaced it should have gotten a missile through its conning tower.

Me: you jest surely, in the coulter mold?
gribbitr2000: no seriously, it was in weapons range of the carrier it should have found it’s way to the bottom of the Pacific
Me: Wouldn’t that have started a war?
    Me: spooking is nothing new
gribbitr2000: no, being that close to the carrier to begin with is an act of war
Me: are you sure? I don’t think it is, but I’m not an expert
gribbitr2000: It is, the carrier taskforce has a legitimate right to protect itself in international waters
Me: prrotect itself from being looked at?
gribbitr2000: it was within weapons range on the sub, that is a threat to the carrier, yes… protect itself
gribbitr2000: it was an action taken by the Chinese to see if our Carrier group would do anything
    gribbitr2000: and it didn’t
Me: so, because we’re in weapons range of Russia (nuclear) we should have attacked them in the cold war?
gribbitr2000: do you have a point?
Me: I think I just made it
gribbitr2000: because you are playing with me now and it is pissing me off
Me: no, this here that we’re doing is rational discourse
Me: it’s what civilized people do
Me: the ones who don’t want to use their fists to think with
    Me: I’m enjoying it
Me: who knows what enlightenment you might give me
gribbitr2000: well I don’t have time for your games.. disagree with me… fine.. blog on your own forum
    gribbitr2000: I don’t believe in anonymous debate…it is impossible
Me: It saddens me you don’t want to talk.. to expound on your views… ideas just exist outside of the debaters: idiots can have moments of genius, evil men can suggest good things, etc?
gribbitr2000: well you in my opinion are a moron… leave me a lone
Me: “I don’t believe in anonymous debate” – that why you blog chief?
Me: Moron: Psychology. a person of borderline intelligence in a former classification of mental retardation, having an intelligence quotient of 50 to 69.
Me: mines a *little* higher than that
    Me: well, be well Gribit
Me: its a shame we couldn’t have become friends
Me: keep up the good work blogging.

I missed it. Can anyone give me the gist?

  31. #31 Dan
    January 27, 2007

JC: The gist of it is that Gribbit showed up here yesterday afternoon threatening to stuff up Ed’s ass any money Ed sends his way. Ed traced the comment IP to a cable modem in Kansas. Gribbit lives in Ohio. Apparently even Gribbit’s Internet provider is anxious to disclaim any relationship with him. Odd, but certainly understandable.

Oh no (“Gasp”). He threatened to put money in someone else’s bum? I’m shocked. Just shocked.

Does thqat mean he won’t be taking all the money we’ve raised? Because I’m pretty he will. Eventually. I’ll just say it’s from the Association of Chritstian Cheer Leaders Untied. I mean, um, United.
