On the Mindcast

Posted on: February 1, 2007 1:18 PM, by Ed Brayton

Tonight I'll be participating in an interview with Karl Mogel of The Inoculated Mind. On the show with me will be Phillip Johnson, the godfather of the intelligent design movement. This is the same show that last week had PZ Myers and Ken Miller. We will be discussing the Dover trial and, I'm sure, some other things as well. The show does not stream online but it will be turned into a podcast so it can be downloaded and listened to later. Should be fun.

I thought he was dead now... Oh wait, that's James Brown, The Godfather Of Soul. I am always getting them confused.

However, please ask Johnson if he feels good...
I have him in my office Dead Pool for this year @ Sept.

And for all you "super-sensative types", and you know who you are, I WAS ONLY KIDDING! Jeez.

Tune in for next week's podcast: T.H. Huxley and Bishop Wilberforce.

Looks like an interesting website. My eyes can not focus easily on white text on a black background. After a couple of minutes I get eye strain. I'm sure other old f***ers like me have the same problem. Sure wish he'd go with a more traditional format.

Your complaints with the background have been heard. I am abandoning the white-on-black design, I am currently editing a new theme to come up with a more comfortable replacement. The theme I've been using has also presented cross-browser format problems.

Actually, I have to say that black text on a white background is the worst thing about using computers. It's like staring at a light bulb.

Definitely post a link to the podcast when it's posted.

I trust you're well prepared for this. I'm hoping you mention something about "bearing false witness."

After listening to the PZ/Miller interview, I can only say be sure to speak up on the phone. The audio balance between the interviewer and interviewee was out of wack. To hear PZ I had to turn up the volume so much the interviewer was way too loud. Maybe it was a one off, but perhaps you can ask about it before the interview.

Ed: I have no doubt that you will be able to shred him (nicely, of course!). About two years ago he appeared at the University of Olahoma to give his usual talk. We see him here much too often - his daughter teaches German at OU.

I asked him to describe just one experiment that could support ID. After turning red and sputtering a few times, along with several ahhhs, his response was 'It's already been done'! He would not amplify just what he meant.

Back in 1997 at the NTSE conference, the critics kept asking the ID advocates what an ID hypothesis would look like and how it could be tested. They said they were working on it, and they'd get back to us.

We're fast approaching the ten-year anniversary of that failed promissory note. By the time I talk in Iowa in March, I expect that it will be ten years and a couple of weeks past due.
