CPAC Undercover

Category:
Posted on: March 6, 2007 9:29 AM, by Ed Brayton

Max Blumenthal of the Nation took a camera in to the CPAC convention and had a little fun with them. I'll post the Youtube video below the fold. This includes the Coulter comment that has gotten so much controversy, and I notice that there is immediate laughter and applause from the audience.

Romney thinks Coulter is a good thing? Huh? By the way, it's always nice to see David Horowitz. I don't think he's crazy at all. No sir, not one bit. No sirree. Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

That's odd, the coverage I had seen on the cable channels always seemed to have a bit of a shock/mulling over pause between her comment and the laughter. I'm not sure if the lack of lagtime afterward is actually better or worse.

Saw coulter vidio from hannity+colmes after remark.Said with a straight face that she and the rethugs are friends of the gays. With friends like these huh?

Glenn Greenwald, Digby and the Daily Howler all have great posts about this. Digby and Howler both draw parallels between Coulter and Dowd, who while not using "fag", still goes out of her way to portray every Democrat male as feminine and every female as masculin.

Bunch of cuckoos laying their eggs in each others' nests.

Hilarious! (But it's pathetic to see a woman of color trying to break in and wondering why the Republican party is a white man's party. Get a clue, dear!)

Nice video.
I think the question about Coulter's personal life was out of bounds, but her reply about respecting her right of privacy confuses me. I thought conservatives did not believe in a right of privacy. They want to overturn Roe v. Wade and it is built on the right of privacy. What have I missed or misunderstood?

Posted by: Hank | March 6, 2007 1:25 PM

Hank - her reply was a jab at the liberal intruder who is supposed to care about privacy rights. Since he asked her a personal question, that clearly makes him a hypocrite. I'm sure it made sense to the crowd...

That is, it doesn't matter what Coulter believes, it only matters that her opponent is wrong.

The reaction, even on the Nation tape, was actually more mixed. Yes there was, sadly, mostly laughter at that vile remark. There was also some less-than-positive reactions.

However, the bottom line is if the "conservatives" continue to suck up to reactionaries like Horowitz and D'Souza, and continue to give any credence to vile idealogues like Malkin and Coulter, than they will deservedly become politically moribund.
