Perkins, Carter, Blumenthal: the Debate Continues

Posted on: September 28, 2007 1:30 PM, by Ed Brayton

At Talk2Action, where I also posted my last take on the subject and where Max Blumenthal has posted a reply. The discussion continues in the comments on both posts.

Interesting to find out that my (skeptical) speculation on the other thread turned out to be correct and Mr. Perkins was Campaign Director, but not really in charge of the campaign. That sort of thing happens in House races a lot more often than Senate ones.

Gee, Mr. Brayton has been promoted to Joe Carters' press secretary.

On Talk2Action, Blumenthal says:

Brayton is confused...Perkins cut checks to Duke's Impact Mail for his phone banking list, not as a fee for them to "make phone calls."

Then Blumenthal quotes from the FEC document.

Jenkins purchased several rounds of calls from Impact Mail.

What exactly does "purchased several rounds of calls" mean, other than that they paid a fee for them to make phone calls? OK, Ed missed out on multiplying 27,500 x 3--an easy mistake to make--but Blumenthal manages to contradict himself with the evidence he himself cites. That doesn't inspire much confidence that he's either (a) particularly intelligent, or (b) a careful investigative reporter.

Mr. Blumenthal, who I did not know prior to this event, is turning out to be quite an asshole.

I'd say that's putting it mildly, having read the exchanges.

This was my first venture into the forums at talk to action, Color me entirely unimpressed. I have my limits in tolerating bullshit, HIV/AIDS denial gets deleted out of hand. But someone who is referenced in any posting I make, is welcome to make a reply (not that I get into these sorts of discussions), I don't care what they want to say, as long as they are at least civil.

Whatever the outcome, I'm sure you'll have a lurker for life in Mr Blumenthal.
