This Should Be Fun To Watch

Posted on: September 7, 2007 9:16 AM, by Ed Brayton

A "values voters presidential debate", hosted by the Worldnutdaily's Joseph Farah and held in, of all places, Ft. Lauderdale. And guess who will be formulating the questions?

Questions will also come from 40 of America's leaders including: Paul Weyrich, founder and president of the Free Congress Foundation; Phyllis Schlafly, founder and president of Eagle Forum; Don Wildmon, founder and chairman of the American Family Association; Judge Roy Moore, a WND columnist with the Foundation for Moral Law; Rick Scarborough of Vision America; and Mat Staver of Liberty Council.

Need I mention that none of the leading Republican candidates are going to be there? Huckabee and Tancredo and the other stragglers will attend, but the only way you're gonna get Rudy Giuliani there is if you rename it a 9/11 memorial. They should put cardboard cutouts of Romney, McCain and Giuliani. And have Giuliani's cardboard cutout be of him in a dress.

See, this gives me hope. The Democrats looking to November understand that liberal social values are the future, so the best plan is to embrace them. The Republicans looking to November understand that conservative social values are the past, so the best plan is to duck the issue.

Fred Thompson apparently hasn't confirmed yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if he does. His fame is enough to get the average non-interested quasi-independent leaning conservative. All that he needs now is to suck up to the religious right and he could probably coast towards nomination with ease.

"40 of America's leaders?" -- None of these people are national leaders. Mostly they lead their followers astray.

Huckabee will be there? I'm disappointed, but not surprised. I've mentioned before that he's a known wacko, but he's an awfully nice wacko.

I can just imagine during the debate the editorializing masquerading as questions by some of these folks ("Do you think it was right to give equal time to a false religion when a Hindu chaplain was allowed to give the opening invocation in the United States Senate?").

I'll be interested to see what Ron Paul does in the context of this event.
