Wait, wasn't this an evil, anti-American, pro-terrorist thing to do? Or is that only when Nancy Pelosi did it in Syria? Where's that right wing attack press to tell us how Laura Bush has been having a three way with Assad and Bin Laden?

Today's right-wing never let's a small matter like intellectual integrity get in the way of knuckleheaded conviction.

Actually, some wingers weren't too happy to see this. Several responses summarized at:

The right wing was too busy confusing Obama and Osama to be bothered with an American woman in a headscarf today.

sorry if this is off topic, but do you rub your face with chicken grease or something to develop that horrifyingly wet-looking shine on your face?

Nah-I think it is the black color of the headdress that gives her that lovely "pasty" glow!

Gee I thought women wore head scarves in certain countries because that is the custom there. How is it any different than women who go to american beaches having to wear bikini tops, even though in many other countries topless is perfectly normal?
Why is this suddenly such a big deal to the right wing?

Holy mascara, Batman! I don't say this to be cruel, but is anyone else reminded of Jack Nicholson as The Joker?

As Ticktockman has pointed out, the wingnuts have been slagging her.

Trust me, you're not the only one.

Furthermore, Pelosi wore a headscarf WHILE VISITING A MOSQUE.
She didn't wear a scarf when she met the Syrian PM.

This seems a bit unfair to me, Brayton. Many on the right were outraged at Mrs. Bush's action, and she was taken to task for it even on Fox News (where she gave a lame answer and was excoriated for it on LGF and other blogs). Both Ms. Pelosi and Mrs. Bush should be ashamed of their actions.

"Both Ms. Pelosi and Mrs. Bush should be ashamed of their actions."
Why?

Both Ms. Pelosi and Mrs. Bush should be ashamed of their actions.
I don't understand this view.
When you are visiting a foreign nation, you should abide by at least the minimum standard of modesty, especially if you are there in some kind of diplomatic or humanitarian capacity. For a woman in an Arab country, that means wearing a hijab. I don't see a problem with this and don't understand why anyone else would.

as the post by Danny Z stated Ms. Pelosi was correct in wearing the scarf while visiting a Mosque in Syria. As far as Ms.Bush is concerned I could care less what she wears, She is the living example of a Stepford wife.

I don't recall any outrate when Bush (with Putin) wore a blue silk dress while in Vietnam, or panchos in Chile.

But a token head scarf is apparently caving in to Islamofascism or something. What about Chiletnamofascism?

She was roundly criticized on a number of conservative blogs. It wasn't downplayed or ignored at all by the right. It helps to actually check before talking trash.
On the other hand, it's always nice to see the intellectually integrity of the left. She certainly is a Stepford wife. I mean, didn't we elect her First Lady for a reason?

Laura Bush Wears Head Scarf
It was a babushka. Russian, non-muslim, women have been wearing them for centuries. Keeps the dust out of the hair.
Funny story from one of our trips to Munich. We were sitting in a restaurant and in came a family--couldn't tell from where, possibly India, possibly Turkish. Hubby, the wife and three kids. The wife was wearing a beautiful head scarf, probably silk, printed with a wonderful design. As the hubby tried to calm down the rather rambunctious children, the wife tossed her head so as to say, who are these people (the hubby and kiddies? why am I here with these people? when can I get out of here?
It was funny as heck.

I think the main difference is that Laura Bush was visiting a country that the U.S. has relations with. Pelosi was visiting a country that has no such relations - and was putting herself forth as some sort of head of state with Presidential powers (she has let that 3rd in line business go to her head). The head scarf thing there just made it look even worse as she tried to play kissy face with Assad.
