Another Christian Nation Resolution

Category:
Posted on: January 6, 2008 9:16 AM, by Ed Brayton

I'm sure you all remember the Congressional resolution passed a couple weeks ago about honoring the important tradition of Christmas. Well now there's another resolution, HR 888, that blathers on about America's "spiritual and religious heritage" and includes lots of Christian Nation nonsense. Chris Rodda seems to be the first to have even noticed the resolution and she has written a detailed critique of its claims. It includes the all too familiar distortion of the Donald Lutz study about Bible citations during the founding period and much more.

Nope no theocracy here. Move along folks...

This will probably pass, because openly opposing it would be political suicide.

Oh, I see a fun test here. Lets see what Ron Paul votes on this one. He obviously isn't afraid of voting against the trend over other popular issues where he wants to take a libertarian stance, but I don't see him opposing this one and making a large faction of his support cry.

At least, not if there is a chance anyone will notice.

They have enough whereas's in there to justify creeping ever and ever closer to establishing an out and out theocracy?

Why do I suspect that even if he does, Paul, the ardent supporters will again blow it off with the "but he's against the war" cries? As if that makes everything else he does acceptable.

I think--or I'd like to think--that the attention shone on this issue recently has gotten some of our legislators concerned. Recently I've had three visitors to my site that read my post on this subject... and all three of them were from the domain house.gov

So I'd like to think that somebody there is actually paying attention to our concerns. But maybe I'm just fooling myself.
