Hilarious Rev. Moon Video

Posted on: March 14, 2008 9:23 AM, by Ed Brayton

Thanks to John Gorenfeld for posting this Youtube video at Talk2Action. It's from the 1997 15th anniversary party of the Washington Times, which featured former President Bush, Sen. Orrin Hatch and many others. It all looked like a great party until Moon takes the stand and begins to rant like the madman that he is about Satan and "free sex" and proclaims that "now no one can oppose me!" The looks on the faces of some in the audience are priceless. Video below the fold.

Hey, the video is 'no longer available' as of 6:52 a.m. Pacific Daylight time. What happened? Or need I ask?

How, how, how do psychotic borderline fascists like him gain so much money and power?

Sorry to misinform you... it's on now. And scary.

Tell me this is a satire.

Asian man rails against sex and declares himself unopposed.

Seriously, doesn't that sound like a hilarious sketch?

Borderline fascists?

How can conservatives complain about Soros? Although I'm sure the good Rev. is a total loon, that was a curiously edited video.

Traditionally the options for obtaining great wealth and power are to inherit it, marry it, or steal it. Given Moon's cult-leader modus, I would say that he obtained his wealth and power by fraud. That would be the 'steal it' option.

It's hard to know if the eye rolling occurred at the same time as the comments. But, the bigger question that has me confused is this: Are right wingers opposed to free sex, or pay sex? Here he is going on and on about free sex, but in the last week we see this huge brouhaha about pay sex. I'm very confused. This really only leaves one choice, no sex. But then he's going on and on about convex and concave...oh, so confusing.

Anybody here recognize the name "Nehemiah Scudder"?

Moon has always reminded me of him.

I've just watched the last half about ten times over. It really is very, very, funny.

The video has obviously been heavily edited. Knowing how easy it is to distort what someone says by using clever editing techniques, I'd prefer to see an unedited version of this video.

On the other hand, I have no doubt that Rev. Moon is a total nut case, and the involvement of prominent politicians with him is very disturbing.

The video is hilarious but Tim has a point about editing. On a related note I watched without sound because I only have internet at work, would I be correct in assuming the subtitled section was a translation of a speech in korean? if so how do we know the translation is accurate? I'm no fan of Moon but this looks just a bit too over the top to me.

Matt,

Part of the hilarity is that the 'good' reverend is actually delivering his speech in English, but so heavily accented as to be almost unintelligible (hence the subtitles). Half the audience must be wondering exactly what the hell he's ranting about.

He is, however, just intelligible enough to confirm that the words in the subtitles, over the top as they may be, are definitely his own.

Yes - big Heinlein fan. Apt, and scarily so.

I looked it up, and you are correct, sir. I went to that TrueFather.com site mentioned in the video Ed posted and found this:

Years ago, Moon was widely considered a dangerous madman, like Jim Jones or L. Ron Hubbard. He inspired TV specials with names like "Escape From The Moonies." His group earned its notoriety by prying young people from families, persuading them to sell flowers to underwrite Moon's New York mansions and yacht, and marrying his subjects to strangers as a show of domination.

http://www.gorenfeld.net/book/

So he's basically riding on the backs of his easily manipulated followers.

Man, he really should have had a translator. His accent is... well, it's atrocious. Someone who wasn't a megalomaniac would probably know that about themselves, though, so I suppose my expectations regarding his self awareness are entirely too high.

I don't know how much of it I would have understood if I were in the audience, but I suspect after hearing "Free Sex" I'd have perked up a bit.

But never mind all that-- Barack Obama's ex-pastor may have said something unpatriotic!
