Genesis has really been three entirely different bands, in my view. The Peter Gabriel/Steve Hackett days were a bit too strange for me. Musically brilliant and complex, but the music never really grabbed me (though I’ve absolutely loved almost all of Peter Gabriel’s solo stuff). Then they had what I think is their absolute peak period from in the late 70s/early 80s when they put out Abacab, Three Sides Live and the self-titled album. After that they really got too poppy for me and I lost interest. Here are a few gems from my favorite period.
