An Examination of the DI's Dissent from Darwinism List

Category:
Posted on: May 14, 2008 9:09 AM, by Ed Brayton

PZ posted this Youtube video and I had to put it up here as well. This guy emailed all of the biologists and biochemists named on the list and found that nearly all of them accepted common descent and several of them said they've demanded to be taken off the list. He also points out what many of us have pointed out before, that the DI dishonestly uses different standards for the institutional affiliation of each person on the list. An honest list would use either where they got their highest degree or where they work now, but the DI changes which it uses depending on which sounds more prestigious. Indeed, they seem to use any past affiliation that sounds prestigious, no matter how tenuous (for years they listed Richard Sternberg's affiliation as the Smithsonian, where he neither worked nor got his degree). Video below the fold.

I am not surprised. The DI has always = Lying Little Weasel.

I saw this video a few days ago. Entertaining, and interesting, but is this old? I thought the DI list was over 700?

Very much like the infamous Frederick Seitz Global Warming petition - filled with nonscientist "scientists" and folks who signed something they knew not what.

What was particularly interesting to me was the careful and dishonest grooming the DI did to rehabilitate the credentials of each signer. Talk about pathetic.

Cranks and propagandists of all stripes use essentially the same rhetorical tricks to support their positions.

Whitney Gray, the fine gent behind this video and a whole series explaining evolution for non-scientists, is a Christian and one of the most intelligent people I've ever spoken to.

Of the two biologists who deny common descent in any capacity, Clarence Fouche. So I was surprised to find that he is a "FaceRep" for the Morris K. Udall Foundation which was established by the U.S. Congress in 1992.

The purposes of the Foundation are to:
  • Increase the awareness of the importance of, and promote the benefit and enjoyment of, the nation's natural resources;
  • Foster a greater recognition and understanding of the role of the environment, public lands and resources in the development of the United States;
  • Identify critical environmental issues;
  • Develop resources to train professionals properly in environmental and related fields;
  • Provide educational outreach regarding environmental policy;
  • Develop resources to train Native American and Alaska Native professionals in health care and public policy;
  • Through the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution, provide assessment, mediation, and other related services to resolve environmental disputes involving federal agencies.

    Cranks and propagandists of all stripes use essentially the same rhetorical tricks to support their positions.

    I emailed a scientist who was unwittingly featured on the HIV denial list. He had to fight with them to get his name off.

    It's a symptom of having no support for your position.
