In a replay of what happened in Dover, the school board members in Odessa, Texas who voted for the NCBCPS Bible curriculum have been voted out of office. A reader from Odessa informs me that all four board members who favored that curriculum who were up for reelection are now off the board. Renda Berryhill was ousted last year because she didn't live in the school district. Randy Rives tried to turn his brief fame into a State Rep seat and got 9% of the vote. Butch Foreman, the one who famously said critics of the Bible class could "kiss my butt" finished dead last in the election last week. And Doyle Woodall lost as well. 4 up, 4 down. Good riddance.

Yay!!! There is hope for TX, and the good old US of A!
Thank you voters, thank you democracy.

After seeing what happened nearby in Dover and now in Odessa I'm beginning to believe that more people accept evolutionary theory than has been thought. It just seems like there are more because creationists and IDers are so outspoken. There is still hope!

I could see many cases though, wherein a family might be religious, if not somewhat fundamentalist in that regard, and yet really do believe that religion should be taught in the home, that schools are fine without turning them into social experiments, and dislike the idea of public controversy of any kind when it comes to their school boards. A matter more of propriety than if ideology. But, I'll take that too.

Corrective action works, but it would be better if people knew ahead of time who the wingnuts were so they didn't get onto the school boards in the first place.
