Day two of Netroots Nation went brilliantly. DarkSyd and I arrived at the conference, got our badges and goodie bag, went into the exhibition hall and tracked down Virginia Hughes, the ScienceBlogs manager. She was representing ScienceBlogs at a table, giving away goodies, and she had a prime location right at the entrance to the hall. It was great to finally meet the boss in person.
When we left the exhibition hall, we promptly ran into Rayne, one of my bosses from the Center for Independent Media, decided the three of us were going to go to lunch, then on the way to lunch we ran into Ali Savino, the really big boss from CIM. That gang is going out to dinner together tonight. The ScienceBlogs group is going to dinner tomorrow night.
Met up with 8 Dispatches readers last night and had a blast. I really want to thank Jeff, Josh, Braxton, Donna and the rest for taking the time to come out. Great conversation, lots of laughs and really good food (the sausage at Stubb's was particularly good). Getting to meet you guys was the highlight of my trip. And thanks to Donna for the "Keep Austin Weird" t-shirt; I hope I did my part to do just that.
Today is our science panel at the conference. I'm really looking forward to hearing what Constance McKee of Americans for Cures has to say about stem cell research and what Mark Bowen has to say about global warming and the government's censorship of James Hansen. It's not going out over C-Span this year, apparently, but the video will be streaming at ustream.tv. Just click on Room 12 at 1:30 and it should be showing. I'm speaking first, after DarkSyd's introduction.

Oh man, I'm still full. I just can't eat as much as I used to.

Wish I could have made it. Maybe some other time...

Off topic but Mr. Brayton may be interested in a brewing scandal in Alabama involving that states' AG, Troy King, who was allegedly caught by his wife in the marital bed with a male aide. Naturally enough, Mr. King is a virulent right wing super moralist and two fisted bay basher. Mr. Troy was also the head of Senator McCains' election committee in Alabama until the scandal erupted after which he was unceremoniously thrown under the bus.

First I want to say that Ed, I am fairly sure that you are doing an excellent job at keeping Austin weird. Secondly, I would like to thank SLC for the above mentioned article. I attempted to bring it up last night at dinner (when we were discussing Ed's new deck of cards) but couldn't remember the details of this latest Republican (like names or state).

Ah yes, the cards. One of the first things that happened when I got to the convention center on Thursday morning was a guy came up to me asking if I wanted to buy a deck of cards where each card was a picture of an anti-gay Republican politician who had turned out to be gay themselves. I said, "I don't care how much they cost, I want that." They'll be in use at my next poker game.

Please tell me that you can buy those online.

Ed, were these the cards?

Thanks Shawn, I've just ordered three decks!

Yep, those were the cards.

I love these blogs.
But why do they call them "science" blogs.

I'm the guy who harassed everyone at the convention to get them to buy our deck, so thank you!!!!
