Luskin Misunderstands His Native Language

Category: Politics
Posted on: July 17, 2008 9:23 AM, by Ed Brayton

Casey Luskin takes a brave leap in the dark and lands with a resounding thud. Carl Zimmer covers it here; PZ does so here.

Multi-syllable words have a known liberal bias.

Good thing lawyers aren't ever called upon to understand the language of a document or anything. It would be tragic if Luskin had to, say, interpret a law.

"Habeas Corpus? That's not even English!"

Luskin: Deliberately dishonest, or just dumb?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

J-Dog, I don't think those two concepts are mutually exclusive in this case. ;)

J-Dog

I agree with PTS, your dichotomy is in need of revamping. Mr. Luskin likely sits somewhere in the gray area between the two. Though it amuses me to no end that these hacks continually criticize empirical research, and in doing so regularly demonstrate their lack of qualification to do so.

I wouldn't be surprised if Luskin knows exactly what "eponymous" means, but also knows his audience wouldn't know what it means, and knew they wouldn't read his comments critically. So much of creationism seems to be specially tailored to exploit public ignorance that I always have to wonder if it's just a cynical ploy on the part of its proponents.

Abbie at erv has a nice take down of Luskin too

Posted by: Tophe | July 17, 2008 11:17 AM

The religiously motivated deliberately manipulating information they present to a blindly accepting audience to increase their own prestige and authority by stoking outrage and ill-will over non-issues? Perish the thought, Wes. This is the Religion of Love and Peace we're talking about.
