Having a great time in Washington so far. Spent Friday afternoon and evening with my friend Jeff, who I’ve known since high school. We went and visited the Center for Independent Media offices and met some of the Washington Independent folks. But first we went and had one of those Five Guys burgers that you all said I had to try. Good burger. Even better fries.
Later last night, we went to Clyde’s. I had to have crab cakes. You can’t come to DC and not have crab cakes, it would be a crime. They were excellent. Then today, I had lunch with Jason Kuznicki and his husband Scott and Radley Balko and the lovely and charming Agitratrix. Went to an Irish pub for fish and chips and had lots of witty and engaging conversation. Even got a hot tip on a couple of stories to look into.
I’ve taken a few pictures of the goings on here in DC. The first picture may go down in history as the equivalent of when Martin Luther King and Malcolm X met and shook hands; it’s me and PZ. No, we didn’t have a matter and antimatter incident. Skip Evans said he was going to sell tickets and put this meeting on pay per view. In fact, PZ is a gentleman and we got along just fine. It was a genuine pleasure to finally meet him in person.
The second picture is from the blogger’s meetup. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United, is on the left waiting to speak. At the podium is Beth Corbin of AU.
And the third is a picture of the U.S. Capitol building at night as I was walking back from the pub to the hotel:
