Sen. Bill Clinton?

Posted on: November 30, 2008 9:23 AM, by Ed Brayton

Karl Meyer and Shareen Blair Brysac suggests exactly that in the Washington Post:

Amid the blizzard of résumés blanketing Washington as the Obama era dawns, there is a superbly qualified candidate for full employment whose name has been overlooked. We refer, of course, to William Jefferson Clinton, America's 42nd chief executive and commander in chief. Yet now, by a wonderful combination of circumstances, comes an opportunity to harness his unquestioned political talents to benefit his country, the Democratic Party, New York state and his spouse. If, as is expected, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes secretary of state, New York Gov. David Paterson could send her husband to the U.S. Senate.

This would not be unprecedented. John Quincy Adams was elected to the House of Representatives after leaving the White House and actually had quite a long and distinguished career there. Besides, Congress has interns too.

I thought Congress only hired male interns?

Only the Republican Congress

Bill's a bright guy, no doubt - but he's also an arrogant jerk who blew what could have been a good (not great) presidency. His abandonment of people like Lani Guinier (like her or not, his actions were cowardly), his encroachments on civil liberties, and his general lack of judgment need to be remembered. As a center-left NYer, I would not be happy about Senator Bill; certainly - given any reasonable alternative - I wouldn't vote for him.

"Congress has interns too."

But how many are backwoods trailer trash? Remember, Bill has certain standards.

Andrew Johnson - he of impeached - not convicted - fame (Just like Bill!) served in the Senate after his Presidency. It didn't turn out so well for Andy, he arrived in March 1875 and died that July.

OT but I just saw this....from Kentucky.

"The 2006 law organizing the state Office of Homeland Security lists its initial duty as "stressing the dependence on Almighty God as being vital to the security of the Commonwealth."

Specifically, Homeland Security is ordered to publicize God's benevolent protection in its reports, and it must post a plaque at the entrance to the state Emergency Operations Center with an 88-word statement that begins, "The safety and security of the Commonwealth cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon Almighty God."

Jesus' General, Patriotboy is already on this:

It's important that GOD protect us. I just wonder how he figures out which hat to wear--GOD, ALLAH, YHWH, etc.--when he leaves heaven to go to work in the morning.

If Bill isn't interested in the full-time gig, he could at least serve until the special election required in 2010, and then let the contenders for the full-time seat fight it out. He would be doing Governor Paterson a huge favor by relieving him of the burden of choosing among the candidates who want to keep the job, creating in the process ten enemies and one ingrate.
