Hannity Consents to Be Waterboarded

Sean Hannity says he’ll be waterboarded for charity and Keith Olbermann calls his bluff, offering $1000 for every second that Hannity lasts while being waterboarded. Yes, Olbermann has his self-righteousness in full flight during this segment, but he’s still absolutely right on the substance. I’m willing to bet Hannity bails on the idea. Video below…

Defending the Torture Memos

If you thought the torture memos were bad, wait till you see David Rivkin’s attempt to defend them at the Room for Debate blog at the New York Times. Doug Kmiec refers to the “tortuous reasoning” in the memos. David Cole nails the Bush administration for using “twisted and macabre legal reasoning to authorize the…

Day of Silence 2009

A longtime reader emailed to express his disappointment in me for not mentioning this year’s Day of Silence, which was on Friday, April 17th. I’m glad he reminded me and I’m disappointed that I missed it too. This year’s Day of Silence was dedicated to a young man named Carl Walker-Hoover, who hung himself on…

The ACLU has sent a letter to school officials in Tennessee threatening a lawsuit over public schools in that state blocking access to all LGBT websites from school computers. In a letter dated April 15, the organization said as many as 80 percent of Tennessee’s public school districts, including Knox County and Metro Nashville schools,…

James Randi Supports Charles Lynch

James Randi has released a video on Youtube in support of Charles Lynch, the man who is facing prison for operating a medical marijuana dispensary that was in full compliance with state and local regulations. The same man that the Obama administration refused to help even when invited to by the judge. Video below the…

Dumbass Quote of the Day

From Rich Lowry, editor of the National Review, talking about those torture memos: Rightly considered, the memos should be a source of pride. To his credit, it’s only the 2nd dumbest thing he’s ever said. Here’s the first:

The London Times reports: BRITISH scientists have developed the world’s first stem cell therapy to cure the most common cause of blindness. Surgeons predict it will become a routine, one-hour procedure that will be generally available in six or seven years’ time. The treatment involves replacing a layer of degenerated cells with new ones created…

I Get Email

Another wingnut email you might enjoy, from someone named Steven Greer. Falwell’s right. Yes, I’m a right-wing Christian too. That’s probably looser to you – unlike most of the mushrooms that read your crap. God knows you lefties are all too smart. Jonathan’s a little different. He’s in better shape than you are – just…

A Navy Vet Talks About DADT

This post at Crossed Pond was written by a longtime Dispatches reader. He doesn’t use his last name on the blog and I don’t know if I have permission to reveal it, so I won’t. But I want you to read what he wrote. You see, he’s a former Navy officer and Naval Academy graduate…

Anatomy of a Right Wing Lie

If you pay attention to right wing smears, you might well have heard this meme that is flying around the blogosphere. It was most prominently repeated by Newt Gingrich in a recent interview: You have Obama nominating Judge Hamilton, who said in her ruling that saying the words Jesus Christ in a prayer is a…
