The 9/12 Nuts

Posted on: April 17, 2009 9:16 AM, by Ed Brayton

Here's some hilarious video from one of those 9/12 tea party get togethers that Glenn Beck is pushing like crazy. Love it when the guy says that Obama is putting things on your TV to brainwash people. Then he tells people to pull their kids out of college to avoid the brainwashing, whereupon a woman yells out "Burn the books!" And says she's dead serious, because of that "evolution crap." Put on your tinfoil hat before you watch this. Shiny side out, remember.

If only marketing can save you, you've already lost... Seriously how can people be this dumb?

I wonder why she doesn't want to burn the brainwashing devices. Burn the brainwashing devices!

Tinfoil hats have been shown to be largely ineffective. Please visit my web site to purchase the new FoilTron Deluxe, a tinfoil helmet that covers the entire head. Only the FoilTron Deluxe can prevent Major League Baseball from reading your personal organizer with rays from space.

I looked this up, and it won't be a surprise to any of you folks, but The Digital Transition and Public Safety Act was enacted in 2005. Obama is more devious than I thought, I bet he's been working on a brainwashing module for those digital converters for years now. Good thing I have DTV already, I guess. But you'd think that the wingnuts would be more concerned about analog television. After all, those signals travel through the air, and you know what else is in the air? Chemtrails!

And "burn the books"?! What can you even say to something like that?

Maybe those women should start wearing tinfoil burquas. Preserve your modesty and keep helpless men from falling into the sin of lust while keeping your brain free of all penetrating space rays and unwanted radio and microwave transmissions!

An edited repeat of a comment post I published in this forum last night in a different blog thread:

I just got back from a Townhall meeting with my U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak, MI-D, 1st district.

The teabaggers were out, all extreme right wing, all poor, and crying about an increase in their taxes. Stupak gave them the floor to vent their greviences, which ended up with zero questions but instead a 10+ minute diatribe.

We heard that the Constitution doesn't allow Stupak to be a Congressman any longer due to term limits and therefore Stupak "hates the Constitution". Pelosi is flying around in huge jets. That they don't want their taxes raised; Rep. Stupak responded to this by actually walking them through a 1040 to show them how they got a tax credit as well as pointing out their withholding taxes were now reduced. Stupak also responded that term limits are a state law and the founders decided not to impose term limits on Congress. They are far nuttier and more idiotic in person then they are on the Internet. Their position was the exact opposite of reality on every issue they raised.

On the other hand several liberals had questions. They did their research, had pointed questions, and really challenged Rep. Stupak who talked about the status and the difficulty of achieving their objectives. Probably the best two was how to get the state of MI to release its funds to public schools so those schools could use the stabilization funds appropriated to them in the federal stimulus package - the principal behind this is related to the topic conservative governors have been vociferously objecting to in the media. The second issue was insuring that new coal plants only go up after those companies also install an appropriate alternative energy supply source, which is the current federal law I guess (that was the assumption stated by the questioner and inferred by Stupak). Stupak communicated that while we will adding a coal fired generator in Northern MI, that will get approved only after a wind farm is operational with the same amount of capacity which is being built in the thumb of MI.

The difference between the two groups could not be more glaring. One an educated group with legitimate concerns ensuring their Congressman was on top of things, the other pretty much just spazzing out like the first victim in the first Alien movie.

I don't like all the borrowing and spending Obama's doing either, but hey, where were all these teabag yahoos during the Bush & Repub-controlled Congress years, when Bush was creating big budget deficits? Where was all the bitching on freerepublic.com about all the Repub congresscritters flying around in private jets?

Arrrgh.

The new and improved FoilTron Deluxe: It's now lined with a plastic bag! It works best when placed completely over the head.

Can we distribute them to these groups free of charge?

"in the fifties this country was infiltrated by the communist party"
"Obamas's a puppet [for George Soros]"
"Fox network is the only one who will [tell the truth]"
"I'm not paying taxes any more! I told my accountant this week!"

ARGHHHH! I need some meds! (if there are any left - this group have obviously been overdosing!)

Did anyone else notice, when the camera finally focused on the guy talking about the commie takover of the US, he REALLY looked like he was giving the "Heil Hitler" salute? Right arm extended, about 30 degree inclination, hand flat, plam down, fingers and thumb together...

I'd pay good money to see said accountant's face during that conversation!

You know, Mr Brayton, sometimes I wish you were making this stuff up. It's pretty damn horrifying to see that people like this exist and really buy in to all the "doomsday" nonsense. Scary as hell!

Michael Heath, I know others (including Ed) have said it before, but I just want to add my voice to the chorus: You should have a blog. Insightful, thoughtful commentary like yours is very rare.

If that's the case, it ran into Poe's Law. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING is so insane that fundies won't embrace it wholeheartedly.

Yeah, that was my thought too -- especially after looking at the woman's YouTube channel. She doesn't seem to be wingnut teabagger material.

What was chilling, either way, was when that guy next to her challenged her on her "burn the books" cry, after she explained that she meant things like college textbooks on evolution, he agreed with her.

Beck talked about this. He said the woman was a liberal plant.

If that's the case, it only slightly, very slightly improves the video. The conspiracy theory and promotion of the Constitution party does not speak well for the sort of crowd that Beck is drawing (and encouraging to wage a new revolution.)

I have actually found a use for aluminium foil covering.

It forms the outer layer of the thermal insulation on a container I made for transporting ice-chilled water to a social event.

Bottle, epoxy armor, foil, foil.

It should reflect the warming sunlight quite well.

Adrienne, as a former member of FreeRepublic I must advise; don't expect them to think, it's not really their style.

About 2 years ago they banned just about every scientist on the forum. The rest left on their own.

Beck talked about this. He said the woman was a liberal plant.

So it's conspiracy theorizing, now? Way to go, Glenn.

I have a couple of years before I have kids in college, but I'm wondering if maybe the lack of books will make it more affordable? Eh, probably not. However, if all the wingnut kids get pulled out, it'll probably be easier to get admission and financial aid. . .and jobs later, too. Go for it, teabaggers!

ROFL. That was hilarious, but it's probably one book they wouldn't burn. It's too full of abstinence only propaganda.

Mr. Brayton,

I've been around a while, and I remember EXACTLY (names changed) the same kind of rhetoric from when I was younger in the 1960's. At the time these folks were called Birchers and were mostly ignored. Have the mighty fallen so far that the country now actually pays them the attention they don't deserve?
