Since the Washington DC city council voted to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions, some members of Congress want to get involved and overturn that decision. A group of Republican legislators want to pass a law doing so and they’re using the usual idiotic rhetoric:
“Nothing can be more important than the sanctity of our families,” Rep. Tom Price, chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, told reporters.
Right. Unless those families are headed by gay couples, then they mutter something moronic about “sanctity” as if that actually means something.
Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Dan Boren (D-Okla.) introduced the bill today, which aims to define marriage in D.C. as a “union of one man and one woman.”
“The family is truly the foundational institution of our nation, and marriage is its cornerstone,” Jordan said today in a statement.
Except, again, for families headed by gay couples. That’s not a REAL family, you see, so the children raised by gay couples can just shut up and suffer so that Jordan and Boren won’t have their marriages threatened in some mysterious way. Idiots.
