Ding Dong the TBOE Chair is Dead

Posted on: May 31, 2009 9:09 AM, by Ed Brayton

Okay, not dead - but no longer the chairman. The Texas state senate rejected the reappointment of Don McLeroy as chairman of the Texas Board of Education on Thursday, failing to get the 2/3 necessary to ratify his reappointment by Gov. Rick Perry. He's still a duly elected member of the board, of course, but he's no longer chairman. I know it doesn't change anything. The nuts still hold a near-majority on the board and Perry could easily name another lunatic on the board, like Terri Leo, as chair. But it's still a momentary victory that put a smile on my face.

I'm thankful that my senator, Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) voted against McElroy. I'm also especially thankful for the efforts by TFN in this regards.

WIth that being said, I'm betting that Dunbar gets nominated for the Chairman position by Rick 'The Hair' Perry since she is one of the more unhinged members of the SBOE.

"...Perry could easily name another lunatic on the board, like Terri Leo, as chair..."
