This headline from the Worldnutdaily, which has gone whole hog for the Obama birth certificate nonsense, says it all:

Go crazy implies an original sanity. Clearly not the case with carders/birthers/birthcarders

"Stikes cord with patriots"? Being a "birther" is a measure of patriotism? Delusional jackasses.

What I find more incredible is this headline: "Lib talker, Lou Dobbs now asking eligibility questions." Lou, a lib?

Mark,
Compared to Rush & Glenn Beck, sure Lou Dobbs could be seen as liberal.

MikeMa, compared to Rush & Glenn Beck, George W. Bush could be seen as a liberal.

I almost want Obama to release the long-form birth certificate now. I understand why he doesn't, but when ten minutes of your time will make a thousand people look like idiots, isn't it worthwhile?
Posted by: Brandon | July 19, 2009 9:13 PM
Maybe he's waiting to maximise the time and effort his opponents waste on this non-issue, and wants to see how high the hysteria will get.
Or maybe he recognises that every single one of the 'birthers' would be satisfied with nothing less than him hand-delivering the original birth certificate for their personal perusal, along with a signed affadavit from God Himself authenticating it, and he's kinda busy running the country to be doing that.

Well since they already look like idiots, is it really worth the ten minutes?

Even if he showed it, it wouldn't be enough. They'd start claiming it was faked or doctored after the fact. Or claim, as some already do, that's its OK for a US birth certificate to list his place of birth as Hawaii even though it was really Kenya, because that's what Obama's parents wanted it to say. The goalpoasts would keep on moving.

The same thing occurs when you confront a delusional patient with proof that invalidates the delusion. The conspiracy widens and deepens to explain away the proof.
You're taught this when you train as a psychologist or psychiatrist, but I think that most of us test it out, just to be sure. Well, I did. You just can't stop yourself from trying.
Posted by: Dr X | July 19, 2009 10:20 PM
Wait, do you think the birthers suffer from a genuine delusion? Or are you using "delusional" the same way some people use "retarded?"
Posted by: Brandon | July 20, 2009 2:40 AM
How do you define "a genuine delusion"? The birthers adamantly cling to a ridiculous belief for which they have no evidence. Is there an additional criterion they'd need to fulfull in order to have "a genuine delusion"?

If being a retarded douchebag in desperate need of intense therapy means you're a real patriot, then count me out.
Actually, count me out anyway.

These people HAVE to maintain their delusion, because the alternative (the reality the rest of us have no trouble accepting) is to acknowledge that a black man is truly the legitimate leader of the U.S.

There, that's better.

'Shocking' new story from We'reNutsDaily:
'Birth certificate' seller vanishes into thin air
(WND, July 19, 2009) - The eBay seller who first offered – and then promised to reveal to WND – an alleged Barack Obama birth certificate from Mombasa, Kenya, has dropped communications with a team of people offering to help him verify the document, only fueling belief the sale was a scam ... When WND, however, pressed Smith to offer any evidence of the document's validity – a birth certificate number, a photo of the embossed seal on the alleged document, anything – Smith balked.
