The Pentagon's denial of a request for a flyover of a fundamentalist Christian rally in Idaho has uber-nut Gordon Klingenschmitt babbling his imprecatory prayers again. Here's his latest:
Let us pray. Almighty God, we pray you rebuke the cowardly bureaucrat in the Pentagon, (whose phone number is 703-695-9664), who decided for the first time in 42 years to deny a request for a military plane flyover at the "God and Country Rally" honoring our veterans in Idaho, because the event might "appear to benefit a religious or ideological movement." Since when are God, Country, and Veterans groups too ideological? God we recall Revelation 21:8, the cowardly...their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. In Jesus name, Amen.
You can almost sense the erection Gordo gets when thinking of his enemies burning in hell.

Did he really include the ph #? Where would his god call from?

Ah the insanity of those firmly convinced by faith alone.

Crooks and Liars has the video of Rev. Mahoney's lie-packed rant on FAUX News about the flyover denial:

But...but...I thought ATHEISTS believed might makes right. At least that's what the Christians say. And they must be right, 'cause they say I'll be dragged to Hell if I don't believe them...

"Tell him I'm not in"

"erection" is right, but either he or god is impotent. Or maybe god just has a headache and wants to go to bed.

As long as Klingon-schmuck has published the bureaucrat's phone number, and as long as Ed has (wittingly or not) passed it on to us, we might as well call the guy up and congratulate him for doing the right thing.
Nameless bureaucrats covering their asses and sticking to the rules, FUCK YEAH!!

I didn't know that Americans are entitled to flyovers when we throw parties. I'm going demand a flyover for my next totally non-ideological birthday party--a rally I'll call Me and My Country.
Posted by: dr x | July 8, 2009 11:49 AM
The guy doesn't let him use publicly funded aircraft to do a flyover of his little Bible-fest, and he wishes him dead and in hell?
Ahhh, Christian love.

I'd never ask for an Air force flyover for one of our Pagan rituals. Who needs all that jet-noise drowning out our carefully-written, off-key, rhythmically-challenged Pagan chants?
Okay, okay, I'm on the phone now...
(Hey, why didn't Michael Jackson's funeral get a flyover? Discrimination?)

Does imprecatory prayer fall into the category of attempted murder? If not, why not?
Posted by: alias Ernest Major | July 8, 2009 12:35 PM
Can't the Pentagon say they got confused about whether it was supposed to be a flyover or a bombing mission? They really misplayed this one.
Posted by: Odie | July 8, 2009 12:48 PM
The inclusion of the phone number there is just priceless. Do you think Klingenschmuck actually said it out loud when he uttered his "prayer"? Because, of course, God won't really hear it unless you say it out loud.
Posted by: Adrienne | July 8, 2009 12:53 PM
He actually did say the phone number aloud in the prayer. Go to the link in the first paragraph of Ed's post to hear the audio.

I pray for a flock of diarrheic Canada geese to flyover Gordon Klingey-shit. Just so the name will stick, if you know what I mean ;-).

See, that phone number thing? That is why we have Poe's Law. You can't make this shit up.

Is this asshat still on the military rolls?
If so, should he get a dishonorable discharge (for threats against an officer of the United States Military) or a medical discharge (for being totally batshit fucking insane)?
Corporal Klinger couldn't have faked this kind of crazy in his wildest dreams!

This is seriously a PRAYER asking god to convince someone in the pentagon (by phone?) that this is not a religious event?
Irony is totally dead now. Thanks.

This is the part that gets me...
Since when are God, Country, and Veterans groups too ideological?
Um...are you sure you should have included your god in the list of things that shouldn't be considered ideological?
Posted by: Kate | July 8, 2009 1:50 PM
Unhhh -- no thanks, Ed. Better you than me. I'm sure we all appreciate your throwing yourself on an exploding ...
Never mind.

Well Halleifuckingleuighia or however you spell that word.
I spent my time in the military as a member of an Unpopular Religious Minority and I got the business daily from my WASP male counterparts in uniform. It sucked. It affected your career and credibility. Somehow some nutter who believes that some Dead Jewish guy came back to life to fly away into heaven, well thats okay. But those other religions--their supernatural stuff, is all fake of course. And Atheists--well they are the most untrustworthy of all.
Its a bunch of crap. You are supposed to set that stuff aside when you put the uniform on. Just like you ignore race and gender. You get the job done. If you go to church, then go. Dont be proselytizing at work.
This is all reminiscent of the political bullshit that went on in the Colorado Springs area that was tied to the Air Force Academy Rape Scandal. Lots of military involvement with Christian Supremacist Functions there too. Hope that has finally stopped.
Most of the cultural problems the military displays whether its sexual harassment and rape stats of women, harassment of religious or ideological minorities, race problems, all can be traced back to one source. I will let you guess what that is.

Terrorist! Waterboard the terrorist Klingenschmitt. He is demanding the death of thousand of innocent Americans working for the protection and safety of America. Clearly, this terrorist Klingenschmitt is un-American and deserves the full extent of US "non-torture" waterboarding techniques. We need to find out what other nefarious plans Klingenschmitt is knowledgeable about before more American are attempted to be murdered.
Is not that the story Faux News should be running if they cared about balance? Sorry, SQL statements have me over the edge this afternoon.

How do I submit this to Fark!?

"This is seriously a PRAYER asking god to convince someone in the pentagon (by phone?) that this is not a religious event?"
No. This is a thinly veiled call to the congregation to act in 'God's name'. Will no one rid me of this meddlesome bureaucrat, and all. One would think a good Christian like Klingenschmitt would be more familiar with the Third Commandment...

That is actually a HUGE slice of the pie for them. Their entire theology is one sublimated, sadomasochistic mess. An army of of psychiatrists could never sort it out.

"...the cowardly bureaucrat in the Pentagon, (whose phone number is 703-695-9664)"
What an asshole. Incidentally, his phone number appears to be unlisted (at least, a cursory yellowpage check found nothing). Also, 6525 Packsaddle Ct, Colorado Springs, CO 80922-1411. I'm getting him on the Jehovah's Witnesses mailing list.

Classic example of "preaching on one's knees," i.e. lecturing the congregation under the guise of "leading a prayer."
Also known as the "As you know, God...." phenomenon.
