Off to the Big Apple

Posted on: July 18, 2009 9:32 AM, by Ed Brayton

I'm flying out this afternoon to New York City for a couple days of fun and frolic. Vinx is coming from Boston to hang out with me and another friend who lives in the area. There will be lots of good food, good company and a jazz club or two. I have reservations at Perilla, a small restaurant owned by Harold Dieterle, the winner of the first season of Top Chef, and at The Black Duck, which is actually a seafood place. I had a chance to get a dinner reservation at WD-50 but I waited too long and lost it. Ah well.

I've got posts already written and ready to go up for the next couple days, but try not to make too much of a mess of the place because I'll be too busy to pay attention to what's going on.

Update: Changed the dinner reservations for Sunday. There are always late cancellations and I happened to find an opening at Craft for the right time. Craft is Tom Colicchio's flagship restaurant, winner of the James Beard award for best new restaurant in the nation in 2002. Can't wait!

What's a dinner at WD-50 run?

steve s:

A fair amount. The tasting menu runs $140 plus $75 if you want a wine pairing with each course. You could order a la carte and probably get away for around $75 a person. Here's the menu:

I was really looking forward to the duck breast with worcestershire spaetzel.

Ed:

Are the wines being served in "Gosh, that was tasty; now bring me a drink" pourings, or "Thish dinner was fabulush!" portions.

Craft is absolutetly delicious.

WD50 is just a coupla blocks away from I work as a sound engineer, Arlene's Grocery [95 Stanton St. b/t Orchard & Ludlow]: if you've got time in the evening, come on by! There's always live music, a lot of it real good [Jeff Buckley & the Strokes both got their start at the club].

Drop my name at the door for free entrance & a drink on me for all your good work!
